LOS ANGELES — A judge who is awaiting a California Supreme Court decision on whether he will preside over Phil Spector’s second murder trial has gone ahead and set a new trial date of Sept. 29.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Larry Paul Fidler said Thursday that whether he presides or another judge takes the helm a trial date is needed.
Lawyers for the music producer are challenging Fidler on grounds that he is biased against Spector.

Spector’s first trial ended in a jury deadlock last September. Spector, famed for his “Wall of Sound” recording technique, is accused of killing actress and former Napa County resident Lana Clarkson at his Alhambra mansion on Feb. 3, 2003.
Fidler also set a hearing on motions for July 29.

Clarkson and her family lived in Angwin in the 1970s. She attended Pacific Union College Preparatory School in Angwin in 1978 before moving to Southern California with her family.

" Phil Spector is as sick a puppy as we'll ever see. He killed Miss Clarkson over 5 years ago, and he's still not in jail. He has proven again, as did OJ Simpson, that if you have enough money for "those" lawyers, you can beat the system. Too bad his victim didn't have such resources to protect her. "

" I almost do not desire to write this, however I feel so sorry and pained for this woman's dreadful death at the hands of a very well known unstable psychopath with $$$$ and some fading social status. While I have to keep this somewhat discrete, Mr. Spector threatened one of the managers ( at gunpoint ) of one of the most well know female recording artists in the world in LA not so many years ago in the early morning hours at a confused and long drawn out recording session that was going nowhere. However what is more insidious is a systemic social and economic culture there that protects and ignores such disturbed and dangerous people and excuses such behavior as 'private and personal business'. One would do well to avoid Hollywood at all costs just as one would shy away from say Wall Street or Washington's power brokers and lobbyists. At least we have them all concentrated pretty much in just a few places.

" Obviously, you have not taken into account the power of money in our court system. This is how justice is rendered in America....write a big enough check and we'll look the other way. ha ha. Yes, the system is a joke and I'm on another roll. It's ALL about money and of course justice has absolutely NO place in this system so what the heck do you expect?

Wake up. smell the coffee...and then go back to bed. America at its best.... "

" I don't know for a fact that Phil Spector is a cold blooded killer, but it sure looks like he is. There's a choice by the accused for either a court trial or a jury trial. They say if one is truy innocent get a court trial. If one knows he is guity, get a jury trial. That's because juries can be manipulated by clever attornies to acquit the guilty person.
Judge Fidler knows what we all think we know and wishes to have Mr. Spector tried again. He didn't buy the hung jury verdict either. Legally, if there is a second hung jury, Mr. Spector can be tried a third time but not a fourth time. Take a good look at Mr. Spector. He is obviously not a man at peace. Not with God. Not with himself. "
