Deals at the Oxbow

Oxbow Public Market will welcome locals from 5 to 8 p.m. every Tuesday night with a variety of tempting offers.
In fact, the market vendors offer lots of other specials for locals; just pick up a card at any stall.

Almost all the merchants have special deals. Check them out at www.oxbowpublicmarket.com.

Farm stands at Oxbow
Oxbow Public Market has opened a produce market that sells fresh produce every day. Individual farmers may arrive later, but for now, there’s not enough produce to justify a stand for most farmers.

If you‘re interested in selling your produce or crafts at one of the farm stands at the Oxbow Market, the spaces are available daily, weekly and on a month-to-month basis. Rates start at $50 per weekend day.

Check the regulations and get an application at www.oxbowpublicmarket.com or contact the coordinator at 257-6828, (916) 494-2392 or via e-mail andru moshe@yahoo.com.

Farmers Market at Copia

Don‘t forget that the Napa Farmers Market has returned for the season. Shop Tuesday from 7:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. or Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon in the north parking lot between Copia and the Oxbow Public Market. This year, Copia will be open on Tuesdays, too.

The Farmers Market in St. Helena takes place on Friday mornings.

Elements to open

Elements Restaurant and Enoteca should open soon in the space formerly occupied by Pizza Azzurro at Second and Franklin streets in downtown Napa. It is owned by former tech executive Rich Poliak and partner Noel Burke, with former ZuZu chef Charles Weber. The restaurant seats 60.

The food will be small plates, primarily from the Mediterranean, priced at $4 to $18.

Temp from UC Davis

While UC Davis looks for a new person to replace the late Ed Weber, it’s appointed Mike Anderson to serve as he school’s viticulture program representative and will be here several days a week at University of California Cooperative Extension.

Call him at 253-4221 or go to cenapa.ucdavis.edu.

Expanding Eagle

The new owners of Screaming Eagle on Silverado Trail are expanding their winery with an additional 22,300-square-foot. building and 10,400 square feet of caves.

They will also add 14,450 square feet of outdoor processing space for a total of 36,800 sq.ft. total.

They don‘t plan to increase capacity beyond 20,000 gallons (8,000 cases) or increase their allowed visitors beyond 15 people per week (by appointment, of course).

Firefighter wines

Napa firefighter Dan D‘Angelo has formed Vino D‘Angelo to make and sell his wines.

So far, he‘s introduced a sauvignon blanc from Nevada County—but only 152 cases—with Sierra Foothills-sourced Rescue Red Zinfandel on the way.

Dan’s winemaker is Derek Irwin, who’s worked at Bouchaine, Cosentino and Viansa.
