Following the death of Robert Mondavi on Friday, the Robert Mondavi Winery in Oakville will remain closed until Monday honoring the memory of its founder.

Tourists trickled through the gates on Saturday to take photographs, many unaware of the passing of the wine legend. Doug Bain of Vancouver, Canada, took photographs of the winery and said, “I’m sure he had a great life and did a lot for the area. We spent our 20th anniversary here and came back to celebrate our 30th.”

" I worked at Robert Mondavi Winery from 1981-1983 on the night shift bottling line. I can say I've never worked for anyone so wonderful as Mr. Mondavi. The time I experienced in his employee I met him once and Michael often came by to see how things were going in the bottling room. No finer, better grounded, or passionate winemaker could you ever hope to meet. Working for him made us so proud that we always went out of our way to aid in the production of the finest wine the world might ever know. Pink and Blue collar alike, always returning to our homes with such satisfaction that what we did was never taken for granted and the Mondavi Wines were anything but common and welcomed enthusiastically by wine drinkers all over the world. God Bless Mr. Robert Mondavi and my sympathy to all the family. "
