" Robert Mondavi was a wonderful man. He used to make us laugh when he would come into the restaurant where I cooked and tell everyone not to make a big deal about him being there. Then he would proudly boast about his wines during dinner! It was hilarious. And he tipped everyone in the kitchen, not just the wait staff! He has an awesome family and my heartfelt condolences go out to them. "

" Mr Mondavi made Napa Valley what it is today. Though I respectfully disagreed with him, regarding the Center of Food and Wine. He did attempt to try to make something worthwhile for Napa. He was not over stuffed about himself, he was generous, thoughtful and very kind man. I wish I could go to the funeral. I know if there is going to be a procession. It's going to be a real long one. Rightfully, so. He was loved by many. Time to pull out the red carpet Napa. You need to be involved in this one. "

" I loved the 18 years I worked at RMW but more so I loved seeing Mr. Mondavi drop in to see how things were going. I know that God has a special place for such a wonderful person and loving man. "

" I am saddened by his passing. Just knowing as I travel through this valley that he is the reason it exists as it does, I don't know, I feel his energy in all the rolling hills and vines here and it really makes me feel sad that he's gone, at least from this place.

But I'm guessing that he had a really good life, not just a financially successful one, but a good life with strong connections to both family and the community; one which would have been present even if he had been an ordinary guy without financial resources.

He obviously experienced quality of life, and it lasted a long time. I hope I'm that lucky!

" I admire this man from a far, not having known him personally, but for his sheer tenacity and passion for sharing the joys of his life to others & complete strangers. From all that have known him, speak to his generosity, wisdom, and passion for a quality of life that he knew wine, and wine making could bring.

There are very people throughout history, that dedicate their life to leaving this world a better place, and here in Napa we are the living, breathing result of this man's dedication. His vision and gift will live on, not only in each glass, but within this valley for many years to come.

My condolences to his family and friends.
