" An elderly man having a reaction to diabetic shock ( I think) was sitting in his car stalled at silverado and imola, people drove by him without a thought for his safety at least 25-30 cars ahead of mine. When we pulled up next to him he was visibly in distress. " Wrong, commonsense, it's not summer. Not until late June. It's mid May. It's a drought year. Where I live, it often gets to over a hundred in the summer, but this is a different sort of heat. Warm, north winds with lacey clouds all night long, humid, then just plain hot. I love heat, but dread drought, and we're close. Anyway, maybe we should start getting used to it. Learn to love 80 (we set our cooler at 84 -- didn't have one for the first 10 years we lived here, but yes, it has been getting hotter each summer, and we've been getting older). Keep a spray bottle handy when outdoors, drink a lot (of water, juices -- alcohol dehydrates), and please don't waste water. Learn to move slowly when it's over 95 or so. One problem is most people have become so dependent on AC (some work places keep it at 65 in the summer), that they will not be able tolerate the earth's hotflashes. The summers in parts of Napa County are as hot as the African Sahel. I expect temps of at least 115 for at least 30 days total during summer. I don't expect, let me see... 104 and climbing on May 15.
