St. Helena police arrest deliveryman

A local man was arrested Tuesday after an accidental delivery of one pound of marijuana and about $25,000 in cash to a St. Helena business, according to police.

Napan Donald Ray Garrett, who makes regular food deliveries to local businesses, was arrested after one of his deliveries to a St. Helena business reportedly contained marijuana and cash, police said.

Garrett, 40, of Napa, was stopped Tuesday afternoon by St. Helena police and Napa Special Investigations Bureau agents after he returned to the St. Helena business to recover the marijuana and cash, police said.

A search of Garrett’s car turned up thousands more in cash, “a moderate amount of concentrated cannabis,” and “a locked box that contained a handgun and loaded magazines,” according to St. Helena Police Sgt. Matt Talbott.

Napa Special Investigations Bureau agents later served a search warrant at Garrett’s home, where about six more pounds of marijuana were reportedly recovered, police said.

Garrett was booked on suspicion of “possession of marijuana for sale, possession of concentrated cannabis and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony,” Talbott said.
