Boy threatens mom with meat cleaver

On Friday, a 14-year-old boy from Napa was booked into Juvenile Hall on suspicion of threatening his mother with a meat cleaver, police said.

American Canyon man injured in rollover crash

On Thursday in south Monterey County, an American Canyon man was injured in a rollover accident on US 101 south of Los Lobos, according to the California Highway Patrol in Monterey. Two others, including the 17-year-old driver of the southbound 1999 Honda CR-V, were also injured in the crash.

Queen's ER: The challenge of keeping burnout at bay

The Queen’s ER staffers are routine witnesses to the fragility of human life, but sometimes it is just too much. In 2007, 51 patients — some of them just children — died in the emergency department, according to Shannon Watkins, the Queen’s director of emergency services. Some patients cannot be saved, or arrive fatally maimed from bloody car crashes.

Fight ends with pepper spray

On Friday evening, Juan Hernandez of Napa was pepper sprayed after he refused to comply with police responding to fight between him and his roommate, according to police. The roommate suffered a large laceration to his face during the altercation, police said. Hernandez, who walked away from the incident on the 1700 block of Pueblo Avenue, was pepper sprayed after he took "a fighting stance," police said.
