Indians, Crushers have formidable first-round foes

The city’s girls soccer teams have once again shown they have some of the best players in the area.

Justin-Siena golfer Cacho reaches TOC with 1-over-par 73

Justin-Siena High School golfer Danny Cacho fired a 1-over-par 73 and was fourth overall in a field of more than 130 players at Monday’s CIF North Coast Section qualifier at Rooster Run in Petaluma.

Varsity Baseball: St. Helena 8, Middletown 7

Dean Slattery pitched a complete game, allowing nine hits, three earned runs and three walks while striking out six as the Saints improved to 10-9 with Tuesday’s nonleague win.

Varsity Baseball: Redwood 18, Justin-Siena 5

The Giants led 15-2 after just three innings and 18-4 after five, though the game went all seven because there is not a mercy rule. Redwood out-hit the visiting Braves 16-12 and committed only one error to Justin-Siena’s six.

Varsity Baseball: North Hills 15, Trinity Pep 14

Phil Maxson went 3-for-5 and came through with a game-tying three-run inside-the-park home run with two outs in the seventh inning during Tuesday’s Sacramento Metropolitan Athletic Conference game at Napa Valley College. Maxson’s hit came with two strikes.

Sub-section Diving: Vintage's Taylor qualifies for sections

Last Friday, three Vintage divers and one Napa High diver went to the sub-section meet in Modesto. The top eight divers then moved on to the section meet, where they competed against the top divers.

JV Baseball: Redwood 6, Justin-Siena 4

The host Giants broke a 3-3 tie with three runs in the fifth inning Tuesday and stranded two Braves on base in the seventh. The visitors stranded 14 base runners in all.

Junior Lacrosse: Force ends regular season

The Napa Force ended its regular season schedule with another shutout, this time against the Tomahawks Green JV team in Rohnert Park, 11-0. McRae Kirmse had a goal and two assists. Devin Geis-Schoeps, Clint Mason and Peter Olney each banged in two goals, while Max Bryant, Matt Goetz, Spencer Redmond and Greg Spinelli all had one. Steve Arrambide and Brandon Bockhold also contributed with one assist each.

Napa Track Club: Local athletes shine in meet

Fifteen young athletes from the Napa Track Club traveled to Santa Clara to compete in the UMOJA Invitational. This two-day meet featured age-based competition for boys and girls ages 8-14, and served as a regional qualifying meet for USA Track & Field’s junior program. Over 700 competitors from all over Northern California participated in the event.
