Wine garden

The author of two books about the recent transformation of Napa Valley from a sleepy agricultural valley to a sort of wine garden of earthly delights spoke at the Napa Valley Opera House last week.

Easy steps to beat water 'crisis'

California has enough water. Surprised?

Who are you? I really want to know

People who make comments to our stories online at napavalleyregister.com use whatever name they want to represent themselves, from ones that show their team support (CrusherFan) to ones that show a humorous twist on real people (Ruff Limblog) and more.

Help schools finish the job

Right now, the Napa community has a tremendous opportunity to recycle material, help local schools and do the sort of good turn we are noted for.

Make perpetrators pay for graffiti clean-up

Dear editor, The American Canyon graffiti ordinance proposal (“Am Can makes plan to speed graffiti cleanup,” April 8) has misplaced the responsibility for the cost of removal upon the property owners.

Missing the trees on Main

Dear editor, At least four beautiful, large trees were recently cut down in a parking lot on Main Street. The lot is on the east side of Main between First and Second streets, across from Wells Fargo. These trees were a defining feature of that block and their absence is jarring.

Vote yes on Measure N

Dear editor, Wow! After reading Joe Fischer’s letter (“Sensing manipulation with Measure N,” April 17), I began thinking and talking about how much the Keep Napa Napa group reminded me of George Orwell’s novel, “1984.”

Taking the blame for Soscol flap

Dear editor, I just wanted to say sorry to the gentleman I cut off on Soscol and gave the bird to on the morning of April 29. That was my fault and I apologize. Thanks.

Gas Prices

Why in the world do so many people think it is a good idea for gas prices to go up this much? It is insanity. I got particularly peeved when I saw this from Tim Haab, who is an environmental economist and libertarian blogger all rolled into one, so he covers all the bases I am mad at about this. This quote from Haab was posted on Andrew Sullivan’s blog, so it went around the net universe:

What are you going to do with your rebate check?

What are you doing with your rebate check from the government?
