A spectrum of works by Peter Scaturro is on display at Folio Winemakers’ Studio in Napa, with an opening night reception scheduled for Friday, April 4, 5-7 p.m.

Scaturro, who studied at the Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia and in Rome, has also worked as a professional artist in Rome. His works have been commissioned by the United Nations, and currently are at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art Artists’ Gallery and Art Brokers Inc. in Mill Valley.
Scaturro, who moved to Napa last year, recently completed two paintings for an invitational exhibit of artists’ interpretations of verses from Dante’s “Inferno” at the Museo ItaloAmericano.

In Napa he also participated in a project with the Brown Street Gallery, collaborating with a nonverbal, mentally challenged woman to create paintings. His work was also seen locally at Mike Bolen Fine Arts Gallery.
His watercolors were awarded first prize in the International H2O Color Competiton created by www.artrom.com, based in Rome.

The show at Folio comprises 30 art works ranging from watercolor and acrylics to ceramic sculptures, both freestanding and wall mounted.
“My art work is about the excitement of exploring with your eyes, mind and spirit the unique and the mysterious,” the artist wrote in a statement. “The work is created to have immediate impact and long-lasting power. It is about seeing what you have never seen before.

“I hope the paintings and sculptures engage you by their power of color, motion and imagery and move you into a sense of wondering and curiosity. Right then and there you are beginning to be pulled in — to be involved in the process of discovering all the variety of shapes, the dark and light spaces in between them, how they’re connected, float or seem to move fast accross the paper. I know you will often return to the painting and find new insights and associations with the imagery that will add to your overall sense of experiencing the original beauty of the creative process.”

His works will be at Folio Winemakers’ Studio through May. The reception includes tastings of wines from the new Michael Mondavi family project. The winery is at 1285 Dealy Lane, Napa and is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Info, 256-2757.

" I was lucky enough to see a preview of this show. Take a time out for art and see this show at this beautiful setting in Carneros area of Napa. Peter's work is refreshing and challenging! "
