Vandals looking to rip off nitrous oxide cartridges to get high struck again late Sunday night at Shackfords store at 1350 Main St. in Napa.

This is the third time the store has been targeted.
Twice thieves were able to make it inside the business by breaking a window. The other time they did not gain entry, said Napa Police Sgt. Debbie Peecook.

In both break-ins the only thing taken were the cartridges used in whip cream dispensers that are used as inhalants, which produces a high for those who inhale them, Peecook said.
Anyone with information about the break-ins is asked to call Napa police at 257-9223.

" Maybe the Silverado Middle School Boys and Girls Club want to post on the store's windows some of their cards to REACH OUT to these "less fortunate people" (According to a letter to the editor from Jim Waggoner 3/31/08) before they strike again. "

" The alarm is obviously not keeping these idiots from breaking in, maybe it's time to get a couple very mean dogs to take care of the problem. A very big bite in the rear is exactly what these brain burning punks need. "

" I am sorry, I am just an old lady puttering along in life but by golly I have enough sense to know they should have locked it up to begine with, OK one robbery but 3 ??This is not funnhy. I wish the NPD could bill the owners for having to come out again for the same offense. why would you leave this material in plan view.....hummmmmm!!! "

" How come this is the first we're reading about this?

Napa really has a drug problem if kids are resorting to breaking into a store to stealing something you can just buy, just to get high. "

" It is sad to hear that people are breaking into stores. It is what happens but it is not necessary. And, a place like Shackfords? What a shame, that is such a nice local store! What is so beneficial about breaking into a store to get high when you will end up getting into trouble anyways? "

" Why do they have to break in? If a teenager (or anyone else) went to any grocery store and tried to buy 8 cans of Reddi-Whip, that raises a huge red flag to the store. It's like when kids buy 12 dozen eggs and several packages of TP on Halloween. Big red flag. "

" The owner's should get a Sonitrol security system installed and apprehend these bozos! Just ask the police, it is by far the best 24 hour monitored security system you can get. In many cases it catches the thieves while they are still there on the premises. It's available here and I had it installed in my Vallejo retail store over 10 years ago after suffering multiple break-ins and catching NOBODY! The first break in after installing Sonitrol resulted in 3 burglars trapped inside my store with myself and 5 police cars outside. Camaras don't work by themselves because theives will not be caught and it's often dark at night. Sonitrol uses preamps that pick up sounds above the ambient level and actually hears the bad guys as they are breaking in and also while inside. That night, the Sonitrol operator alerted me on my cellphone and stayed on the line with me while she dispatched the police. She was telling the police and me everything that she could hear and what they were discussing...so when they made a break for it out the back door the police knew ahead of time and were right there with guns drawn as they came running out. Since then, I have had no break in attempts and the system has paid for itself. My insurance premiums were cut in half when I told them what system I had which speaks volumes. By the way, the other alarm company I had before (I won't mention that it's B@y Al@$m) never caught ANYONE and I had false alarms ALL the time. It was much cheaper than Sonitrol but it did not work so it was worthless to me. There were also no more false alarms with Sonitrol which the police really like as well. "

" Make Napa Better...it isn't the first time we have heard about it..it was in the paper a few weeks back.
These people are ridiculous...poor Shackfords. I hope they have to pay for any damages they caused as well as jail time. "

" I have an idea, why doesn't some group just do a Nitrous Oxide Canister drive for the less fortunate, like these thieves? Can't a kid just do some whip-its every now and then? "

" Better yet, there is a business opportunity for our cash strapped government. To supplement all the opium and cocaine that the US Government smuggles in to our country, they could easily license NOX bars like they do wine bars and tax the you know what out of it because people will pay it to get high. Think of all that tax revenue and it would end the crime too. They could have the fave flavor of the month hits for a buck and still make money! What the heck, the FDA constantly approves drugs that kill us and at the same time bring in billions in taxes, right? So what's the diff? Our government does not care about our health because we are worth more to them as unhealthy drug addicted zombies. Crimes like this and much more serious are on the rise as a result of our collapsing economy. The poor always get hit the hardest and crime becomes the alternative to work. "

" For everyone's information, the cannisters are out of site, where clerks must retrieve them for customers. Obviously these dopers have been in before to purchase them and now know where they are kept.
And to the Shackford's defense, catching vandalls is not their job. They have alarm systems....Where are the cops every night?

In 35 years Shackford's has never had this problem. Its unfortuneate that these dopers may be a result of the lack of activities we have here in the Valley for the younger society.
