Man dies in vineyard accident

Lawnmower crushes worker on Soda Canyon

A man died in an industrial accident Thursday afternoon at an Atlas Peak vineyard, according to local law enforcement officials.

The victim’s name was not released pending notification of the next of kin.

The victim was working under an industrial lawnmower at a site off Soda Canyon Road when the machine fell on his head, CalFire Engineer Chris Batey said. He was declared dead at the scene.

The accident occurred at a workshop on a gravel road by the vineyard, Batey said.

The call from the 3200 block of Soda Canyon Road came a little before 3 p.m., according to CalFire.

A woman who answered the phone at Krupp Brothers Estates, which is listed as being at the address of the incident, declined comment.

The California Division of Occupational Safety and Health, the agency that investigates industrial accidents, has been contacted, according to the Napa County Sheriff’s Department.
