Napa photographer’s winning work

“Champagne,” by Napa photographer Richard Bruns, has been garnering notice around the state, including winning a first place and best of show at the Dixon May Fair, and first place at the Napa and Lake County fairs. Bruns, who shot the photo with a Canon 20D and processed it with CS3 Photoshop, credits his Napa Valley College instructors Ron Rogers and Samanda Dorger, for help developing his award-winning talent.

The deadline to enter the completed forms to enter paintings photographs and most other exhibits in this year's Dixon May Fair, the oldest fair in the state, is Wednesday, April 2 at 5 p.m.

The fair, themed “Wheel’n & Squeel’n,” opens May 8 and continues through May 1.

The first step toward entering an exhibit in the fair is to obtain a premium guidebook, which lists what can be entered and the prize money to be awarded, said exhibits supervisor Janet Wimmer.

Guidebooks are available at the fair office, 655 S. First St., and online at www.dixonmayfair.com .

Residents can enter everything from a to z--from arts and crafts to zinnias. The major categories include interior living, fine arts, photography, floriculture, today’s youth, industrial education, ag mechanics and junior livestock.
