2007/08 All-Napa County Boys Basketball
FIRST TEAM ALL-NAPA COUNTY
Kevin Dougherty, Justin-Siena senior guard
Dougherty continued to be the focus of opposing defenses this winter and continued to produce points on the scoreboard. He
averaged a team-best 17.8 PPG in league play for the Braves.
Dre Gomes, St. Helena senior forward
Gomes was the top player on Ray Particelli’s resurgent Saints, averaging 14.9 points, 8.9 rebounds, 1.5 blocks and 1.4 steals this season. He was a First Team All-NCL I South honoree.
Gage Harty, Napa senior center
Harty averaged 9.5 PPG and 6.5 RPG for the Indians this winter.
“Gage is probably our most improved player on the year. His
physical presence inside was essential to our success this year,” said Indians coach Mike Warrington.
Harty’s best game was a 24-point, 14-rebound effort against
Miramonte in the semifinals of the Wine Valley Tournament.
Harty posted three double-doubles and shot 71 percent from the free throw line on the year.
Jackson McMahon, Calistoga senior guard
McMahon stood 6-foot-5 and “ran our point guard and shooting guard at times. His vision on the court made his teammates better,” said father and Wildcats coach Jack McMahon.
The younger McMahon, a First Team All-NCL II South selection, normed 21.0 PPG in league play and 19.0 PPG on the season overall.
The well-rounded Wildcats standout averaged 12.0 RPG, 6.0 APG and 5.0 SPG.
Michael Santora, Napa senior guard
Santora normed 10.2 PPG and 2.7 APG this season, leading the Indians in free-throw shooting at 71 percent.
“He was also one of our captains and leaders all year. He is one of the most coachable players I’ve ever coached and a true competitor,” said Indians coach Mike Warrington.
Santora also led the squad in 3-pointers, making 44 on 34-percent shooting from behind the arc. He was an All-MEL Honorable Mention selection.
SECOND TEAM ALL-COUNTY
Colin Chadwick, Justin-Siena senior post
One of top big men in the Valley, Chadwick normed 10.7 PPG and 7.8 RPG for the Braves.
Daniel Cravalho, Trinity Prep junior guard
Cravalho took major strides towards becoming a dominant player as he averaged 13.7 PPG for the Crusaders this winter.
He attacked the basket from the inside and displayed a solid
outside game, connecting on 17 3-pointers.
Cravalho was named Honorable Mention All-NPAC.
Raymond Fechter, Calistoga senior guard
A Second Team All-NCL II South selection, Fechter was a shooting specialist for the Wildcats.
Fechter averaged 15.5 PPG, 4.0 RPG and 3.0 SPG for the Wildcats.
John Gehrke, St. Helena junior center
Gehrke should be one of the Valley’s best returning post players next fall.
The junior posted game averages of 10.9 points, 7.1 rebounds and 1.2 blocks this past season. Gehrke was named All-NCL I South
Honorable Mention.
Allan Samaniego, Vintage senior guard
Samaniego led the Crushers in 3-point field goals this year (43), contributing 9.4 PPG, 1.1 APG and 1.1 SPG as well.
“He is a true competitor who leads by example, in the classroom and on the court,” said Crushers coach Scott Thom.
HONORABLE MENTION ALL-COUNTY
Jesus Cachu, Calistoga senior forward
After bypassing basketball to focus on football as a junior, Cachu returned to the hardwood after another solid year on the gridiron as a senior. Despite being an undersized big man at 5-10, Cachu averaged 6.3 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals.
Kevin Lee, Napa Christian senior guard
Lee contributed 7.5 points and 2.5 steals per game for the Knights.
“He was our best leader and most consistent defender,” said coach Scott Blunt.
Chris Meyer, Justin-Siena senior guard
Meyer scored 7.8 points per game this year, but his major
contribution came on the defensive end. Always assigned to the other team’s top scorer, Meyer on average held them to 8.0 points below their season average.
Robert Rojas, Napa Christian junior forward
Rojas was one of the top newcomers in the Valley this winter. As the Knights’ most consistent offensive performer, Rojas averaged 12.2 PPG and 8.5 RPG.
Philip Maxson, Trinity Prep senior forward
As a senior playing basketball for the first time, Maxson led the team in total rebounds (7.8 RPG).
“He consistently guarded taller, heavier players and played
aggressive defense. Overall he had a ‘never give in’ attitude,” said Crusaders coach John Streett.
Maxson ranked third on the team with 1.5 SPG and 1.3 APG.
Maxson was named Honorable Mention All-NPAC.
Austin Saladin, St. Helena senior forward
Saladin was the top long-range threat on the Saints, averaging 11.5 points on the strength of 54 3-pointers. He also contributed 2.5 assists and 1.8 steals per night this season.
Daniel Schmitz, Pacific Union Prep junior forward
Schmitz was named to the PUC Pioneer Basketball All-Tournament team this season. His well-rounded game included nightly averages of 9.9 points, 6.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 2.2 steals per game.
James Thompson, Justin-Siena senior post
Thompson was a solid interior player for the Braves, averaging 8.0 PPG (third on the club) and 4.5 rebounds per night (second) overall on the season.
Zach Wagner, Vintage junior forward
“He did all the little things to help our team compete. A true joy to coach, a very coachable young man who never backed down from a challenge,” said Crushers coach Scott Thom.
Wagner, a team captain, normed 4.2 points and 4.0 rebounds per game this season, as well as a team-best 1.3 steals per contest.
Jonathan Wheeler, Pacific Union Prep senior guard
Wheeler was a top threat for the Falcons, norming 10.1 points, 3.4 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.5 steals per game this winter.
Chris Yeakey, St. Helena senior forward
Yeakey posted per-game averages of 5.7 points, 6.1 rebounds, 1.6 steals and 0.7 blocks this year, earning a Second Team All-NCL I South nomination for his defensive work.
