The state Department of Finance announced Friday that the cities of Napa County will receive more than $2 million in Proposition 1B local street and road funds for 2007-2008.

According to the department, American Canyon, Calistoga, St. Helena and Yountville will each receive $400,000. The city of Napa will receive approximately $1.2 million.
State Sen. Patricia Wiggins, D–Santa Rosa, noted that 57 percent of Napa County residents voted in favor of 1B in November 2006.

“California has some of the most congested highways in the nation,” Wiggins said. “It is important that, even in tough fiscal times, we endeavor to improve our roads, highways and transportation systems to the fullest extent possible.”
Forty-six cities received their Prop. 1B funds on Feb. 15. Friday’s announcement means that nearly one-third of California’s 478 cities have now received their allocation for the current fiscal year, for a total of $154 million of the $550 million appropriated for cities in 2007-08./Register

" The city of Napa will spend $1 million on a commitee to evaluate which roads need repair, $100,000 to hire someone to tell us there isn't enough money, and $100,000 to resurface the city employee parking lot. "

" Couldn't have said it better. I notice that after roads are paved some utility company comes along to dig a trench and screws everything up. The only people making a profit are the tire/front-end alignment shops. "

" Wow, we defeated the Measure H transportation tax 2 years ago and somehow they found a way without taxing us to death to widen Jamieson Canyon, repave most of Napa's Streets, most of Silverado Trail and now they get even more money for the roads. It proves that when we require government to do its job with the money it has, they do it. So now, they want another transportation tax on the November election...Just when they have all the money they need the want to try again to raise taxes...don't think I'll vote for it. "
