A kind of musical heaven is about to descend upon the Napa Valley in the form of 16 starry singers of opera fame, and a host of angelic musicians called the Napa Valley Youth Symphony. The occasion will be the first-ever fundraising benefit for the young ensemble, Feb. 16 at 7:30 p.m. at Lincoln Theater in Yountville.

2007 Canadian icewine harvest
“The 2007 icewine will be the one that everybody looks for,”. Charlie Pillitteri predicted, surveying the now-empty vineyards at Pillitteri Winery. The harvest started Jan. 3 when the temperature plunged to 12 F for the third night in a row. The cold crystallized the body of the grapes and brought the sweetness up to about 42 brix, well above the minimum required to earn the title “Canadian Icewine.”
Toast of the Valley
On March 2 and 3 the James Beard Foundation will honor winemaker Christian Moueix of Dominus Estate and Chateau Petrus at the third Legends of Wine fundraising event in Napa Valley. Hosted by Ken Frank of La Toque in Rutherford Legends of Wine will be a weekend of wine tastings, wine dinners and a vineyard tour with Moueix. Proceeds from the event benefit the James Beard Foundation and the La Toque Scholarship in wine studies.
