For the first stop on his “Day Trip” album tour, Pat Metheny returns to the Opera House with bassist Christian McBride and drummer Antonio Sanchez for an evening of jazz.

“Day Trip” was released by Nonesuch Records on Jan. 29, and all 10 tracks are original Metheny compositions.
Metheny’s versatility is nearly unmatched, and his body of work includes compositions for solo guitar, small ensembles, electric and acoustic instruments, large orchestras, and ballet pieces, with settings ranging from modern jazz to rock to classical. One of the brightest stars of the jazz community, Metheny has spent most of his life on tour, often performing nearly 250 shows a year.

Metheny’s closet of stellar awards includes 17 Grammies in categories including Best Contemporary Jazz Recording, Best Jazz Instrumental Solo, Best Instrumental Composition, Best Rock Instrumental and a perennial poll winner as “Best Jazz Guitarist.”
Five years ago, Metheny tapped Christian McBride and Antonio Sanchez to be the latest members in his acoustic trio format. The deep affinity between these three jazz powerhouses creates concerts of high intensity and contains a wide breadth of jazz improvisation.

The Pat Metheny Trio performs at the Napa Valley Opera House on Feb. 19 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $55. For reservations, contact the Opera House box office at 226-7372, www.nvoh.org
