Impeachment is long overdue

Dear editor, As an Independent nonpartisan, I have spoken to both Democrats and Republican acquaintances who are in agreement that the impeachment of both Bush and Cheney is long overdue.

In order to keep them from continuing to do damage to our Constitution and our country, Bush and Cheney must be held accountable. Our elected representatives in the Senate and the House must show the courage to do the right thing as promised to us when elected into office and impeach. Whoever is elected as our next president should not be further burdened by the corrupt legacy of Bush and Cheney and their blatant disregard for the rule of law. Please write, call, or e-mail your representatives today with the strong message: “Impeach both!”

" Here we go again. The writer could at least provide some supstantial evidence to support her argument.
We all had to suffer the facts that surrounded the Clinton impeachment. Just saying someone should be impeached is not enough.

I'm not necessarily a Bush supporter (neo-con Bushite). 50 years is not really "neo". "

" Your right Frances. Clinton was impeached but no one had the balls to throw the trader out. Let's impeach Bill and Hillary before it happens again with those nightmare people in The White House. "

" Wow, only two comments and they're both against impeachment. What a surprise (NOT). While both comments appear reasonable, so does Tony Snow. Don't you get it? If you have to ask 'why' for Impeachment, this message isn't for you. So, instead, why don't you take this message back to your powers-that-be: THE PEOPLE KNOW. "

" Frances is what we call a "true believer". Again, forget what Bill Clinton and Al Gore did to win an election; took $140,000.00 from (Chinese)Buddist Monks in West L.A. for the secret data on the miniturization of our nukes, had a sexual affair in the oval office with an intern and lied about it, and finally allowed the U.S. to suffer 19 terrorist attacks and did nothing about it.
I say give Bush and Cheney medals for defending us and taking the war to the terrorists. Only God will be able to help us if Clinton or Obama is elected. "

" Yes...let's impeach the bad guy. But..hold on..after the terrorist attacks that Bill accepted, would we not be dead by now with the Clintons back in. Frances needs to get a life and read some history. Besideds, Hillory will take care of here real well I'm sure. "

" I agree with Omega. The people do know. There are a LOT of people--living right here!--who think Bush/Cheney should not only be impeached, but sent to the Hague as war criminals. The US does not own the world. Iraq is not our sandbox to play in. They don't hate our freedom, they hate that we treat the rest of the world like second-class citizens. If you don't know the reasons for impeachment, you have not been paying attention. "

" Evidence? Trillions of dollars in debt due to a war being fought in the wrong country (Bin Laden is in Afganistan and still free); billions for a war that has filled the pockets of the oil companys and other corporation-favorites of Cheney and the rest; our loss of constitutional freedom; proven lies upon lies, over and over;
To the naysayers: What is your evidence for this administrations successes? "

" Two questions: Did the writer here not receive the memo that it's an election year? And since when did any presidential decision affect the town of Napa, or its residents, in any measurable way?

I'm neither pro-nor-anti-Bush, being that I'm well aware that I couldn't do the job as well as he has. I could be wrong, but I haven't seen a woman by the name of Frances on the presidential ballot for 2008. "

" To Matt G: You state "And since when did any presidential decision affect the town of Napa, or its residents, in any measurable way? " Ask that question to those who have lost loved ones and friends in this war. I have, and yes, IT IS VERY MEASURABLE. I'm a frequest flyer and I will no longer walk a picket line or engage in a demonstration because I can't afford the risk of being put on a do-not-fly-list. That is called loss of speech and loss of constitutional rights. Billions and trillions being spent on the war effects everyone, even in Napa. I could go on and on but those are a few examples to answer your uninformed question. I do not support an empeachment effort this late in the game but only those with their heads in the sand could even remotely think that the current administration has benefited this country. Even the republicans are fed up, speaking out, switching parties, or turning Independent. "

" Matt G.: I disagree with two things you said in your post. First, the decision to go to war in Iraq was made by the president and his cabinet, and I believe that the West family could argue that they had their lives affected when Phillip died in Fallujah. So, yes, presidential decisions do affect locals. Second, just because one doesn't run for president doesn't mean one can't form an opinion on the president or the quality of the job the president is doing. I am not arguing for impeachment, but reason is definitely lacking in your final statement. "

Until the day Bush or Cheney lies about having an sexual affair in the White House, neither should not be brought up for impeachment!! "

" Kevin: As I am always looking for some good liberal-cornering data, I would love to have you list the foreign terrorist attacks on the US in the Clinton years vs. the Bush years. There is only one on US soil that I can think of in the Clinton years and one in the Bush years (world trade center attacks). If the Cole bombing is counted (and Saudi Arabia embassy, etc.) in the clinton years, then don't we have to count a very large percentage of the deaths in Iraq that resulted from terrorist-placed IED's as well? And if we want to count terrorism by Americans, Clinton gets Oklahoma City while Bush gets the Anthrax run post 9/11 and the Muhammed/Malvo murder spree. Please help me straighten this out. Thanks "

" to subtlesaturn, you state, "They don't hate our freedom, they hate that we treat the rest of the world like second-class citizens." Have you ever studied the history of the muslim terrorist movement? Do you even have any idea how muslim terrorists treat people they rule over? Do you understand that when evil presents itself that any decent human being must try to put a stop to it??? Do you know what is happening in Sudan, and other parts of the world where muslim terrorists are trying to gain a foothold???? I cannot fathom how you could make such a statement and not feel foolish. Of course they hate our freedom. They hate that we allow everyone in this country the right to speak out, and to be who they are. As the ruler of Iran has said, "We do not have homosexuals in our country."....ever wonder why???? Do you know the history of how the taliban gained their original foothold in Afghanistan??? Do you want to see that repeated in Iraq? If you do not know these things, you are the one who hasn't been paying attention!!! "

" Trickle, for a Liberal you are pretty quick! That is exactly what our brave troops are doing in Iraq, Afghanistan and other fronts of the war on terror! They are taking the fight to the enemy instead of the enemy bringing the fight to us. I am glad you can appreciate the sacrifices that our troops are making to protect us and to protect America. "

" Constant repetition of lies only works if they are unchallenged. There are several fact-checkers who challenge Republican-enabling guff now, even on a 'fleabite' media site like the NVR was called by one self-important Republican-enabler. --- The facts are the Republican front-runner is on financial life-support. Ron Paul has out-raised the 'conservative' favorites. The last guy to drop out of the Republican race, Willard "Mitt" Romney spent between $35 and $65 million dollars just to drop out in favor of John McCain, of whom one of the self-styled NVR 'conservatives' says he would rather vote for Hillary. Nationally, the Democrats are registering new voters 3 to 1 over Republicans. And Hillary Clinton alone got more votes than ALL the Republicans together received on Super Tuesday. The only hope the Republicans have is to demonize the Democratic nominees and hope that they can sow enough dissention in Democratic ranks to divide them. However, the Dems are ON to the strategy and are not going to fall for it. Independents like myself are not nearly as concerned about Republican distractions as they are about their deteriorating economic condition. The Republicans are going to be decimated because the American people have had enough of ersatz 'conservatives' blaming various scapegoats and waving the flag instead of doing the business of 'We, the People...' ~Ruff "
