A stakeholders committee organized by the Napa Valley Unified School District is expected to make a controversial recommendation to the school board tonight with regards to upgrades planned for Napa Memorial Stadium.

The recommendation, said public information officer Lisa Toller, would likely result in a larger playing field, thereby moving the bleachers eight feet farther from the field than they current are.
“Some people feel that compromises the intimate feeling of Memorial Stadium, said Toller, noting that a larger field would “accommodate a wider variety of uses.”

Measure G, passed by voters in 2006, provides $12 million to perform a seismic upgrade and to bring the stadium up to compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Recommendations by the stakeholders for Memorial Stadium include expanded seating, improved lighting and a larger field.

The board meeting is scheduled to open to the public at 7 p.m. tonight in the board room of the Education Center, located at 2425 Jefferson St., Napa.
Vintage High School’s performance of Miss Saigon is scheduled to open tonight at the Education Center’s District Auditorium, so the public is encouraged to arrive early to look for parking.
