It was a friendly wager on a high school football game, ending with Napa High School being victorious not only on the field but also at the state Assembly.

Assemblymembers Noreen Evans, D-Santo Rosa, and Greg Aghazarian, R-Stockton bet a football jersey and a case of wine on the outcome of last December's Napa High vs. St Mary's of Stockton state Div. 1 football section championship game.
Napa High won 38-36, leaving Aghazarian owing a case of wine and having to show for work one day in a Napa football jersey.

He paid up his bet today, with Evans joining him in an Indians jersey of her own.
“The game was more fun to watch than this year’s Super Bowl,” said Evans. “It was also fun to see Greg settle up today, walking around the Capitol in an Indians jersey. I tried not to gloat too much about Napa’s victory but I couldn’t help myself. Greg was really a good sport about it all. And, I got some tasty wine out of it too. Victory is so sweet!”

Honoring the terms of the bet, Aghazarian praised the performance of both teams on the Assembly floor.
“I hope the Napa High School fans enjoy their victory today as I wear an Indians jersey around the Capitol,” said Aghazarian. “But I would caution them to enjoy the moment while it lasts. The St. Mary’s Rams are already hard at work preparing for another championship run and hopefully a rematch with Napa High next season. While I join with Assemblywoman Evans today in recognizing incredible accomplishments of the student-athletes on both teams, I also look forward to seeing Noreen proudly sporting a Rams jersey next year at this time as we celebrate a St. Mary’s championship.”
