A Napa man suffered critical injuries when he was dragged by a pickup truck for more than two blocks and then hurled to the street when the driver hit a parked car on Main Street between G Street and Jackson Avenue on Wednesday afternoon.
The driver took off and is still at large.
Oscar Rios, 24, was taken to Queen of the Valley Medical Center, suffering from major trauma to his body, according to paramedics on scene.
According to witnesses, Rios was hanging onto the outside of the passenger side of the pickup, grasping the window frame, Napa Police Sgt. Brian McGovern said.
Inside was the driver of the pickup and a passenger.
Rios held onto the door until the driver hit another parked truck on Main Street at Jackson Street.
Upon impact Rios was thrown from the moving truck and landed under the parked pickup.
“(Rios) was sitting on the ground by the parked pickup when we got on scene,” Napa Fire Battalion Chief John Callanan said.
Carlos Gonsalvez witnessed the incident and said he saw the pickup driving fast southbound on Main Street.
“I saw the man outside the pickup holding onto the passenger door. The passenger inside the truck was punching the man outside with his fists,” Gonsalvez said. “We followed the pickup. Then I saw (Rios) lying on the ground. He was bleeding.”
As of Wednesday, police were still looking for the pickup, which is described as a white Chevy with a black rack on the pickup bed.
Anyone with information about the accident is asked to call Napa police at 257-9223.
