Napa High crab and pasta feed set Feb. 23
Napa High will hold its annual Sports Booster Club crab and pasta feed on Saturday, Feb. 23, from 6 p.m. until midnight at Chardonnay Hall at the Napa Expo Fairgrounds. Proceeds benefit all Indians athletic programs. The crab is supplied from northern California and Oregon.
Must be 21 or older to attend. Doors open at 5 p.m. with dinner served at 6 p.m. There will be dancing from 9 p.m. until midnight. The no-host bar will be open until 11 p.m.
Cost is $50 per person for open seating or $100 per person for VIP reserved. Open seating includes all-you-can-eat crab, pasta, salad, French bread and dessert while reserved seating includes that as well as a champagne reception, complimentary wine, gift bag and raffle tickets.
Open seating tickets are available at Fillippes Pizza Grotto at 645 1st St. (checks only) and Bank of Napa at 2007 Redwood Rd, Ste. 101. Sonoma County Alliance has soccer tryouts
Sonoma County Alliance and Windsor Youth Soccer League announced their official cooperation in the formation of Division 1 teams in Windsor for the 2008 youth soccer season under SCA leadership. This program, set to begin immediately, will feature teams playing under the coaching staff and club vision of SCA. The teams — which will be referred to as SCA North — will train in the city of Windsor.
The initial season for SCA North will feature tryouts for boys and girls teams in under-9, under-10 and under-11 age groups. SCA will only form teams up to age under-14 under the SCA North umbrella. Players wishing to continue on under SCA guidance at the under-15 and older level will then be involved at the home club in Petaluma.
If there is significant interest in the U12-U14 age levels this upcoming year, SCA will also consider forming SCA North teams in those age levels this spring.

AmCan youth volleyball deadline March 1
The United States Youth Volleyball League starts this spring in American Canyon. The program will be running at Kimberly Park at the beginning of April. The registration deadline is March 1.
The USYVL is an instructional volleyball league for boys and girls ages 7 to 14. Teams are coed and no previous volleyball experience is necessary. There are three age divisions: 7-9, 10-11 and 12-14.
The organization’s mission is to provide every child with a chance to learn and play volleyball in a fun, safe, supervised, low-pressure environment. Every child plays and learns the game, with emphasis on sportsmanship, cooperation and teamwork.

The Napa Saints will conduct sign-ups for the 2008 football and cheer season. They will be held March 11 at PB&Js, 849 Jackson St., Suite 4A from 6 to 7:30 p.m., and at the Chefs Market, May 30, June 13 and June 20, from 5 to 8 p.m.
There is a cheer clinic March 1, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m., at the Harvest Middle School gymnasium.

NorCal Elite youth softball tryouts Feb. 23
NorCal Elite youth softball make-up tryouts will be held on Feb. 23 at Lee Bell Park in Fairfield. The 10-, 12- and 14-and-under age groups try out at 10 a.m. The 16- and 18-and-under age groups try out at 11 a.m.

Mini-soccer indoor program deadline Feb. 21
The city of Napa’s Community Resources Department is offering a mini indoor youth soccer program for youths ages 3 to 6. The four-week season begins on Feb. 23, with games scheduled at 9, 10 and 11 a.m. and noon, at the Las Flores Community Center Gym.
The registration deadline is Feb. 21. All registered players should show up on the first day of class. Parents are asked to have their child report 15 minutes early the first day to allow for time to check-in and get their team shirt.
The mini-soccer program is built on the same foundation of fun and instruction that has led to the success of other youth leagues. Each team will spend the first 25 minutes learning new skills and the next 25 minutes playing games. All players will be assigned to a team on the first day at the gym. The fee is $40 and includes a team T-shirt.

Napa Golf Course lesson programs offered
Napa Golf Course at Kennedy Park will offer a spring lesson schedule designed for couples, juniors and women. The course is still offering free golf for children under 16 years of age when accompanied by a full paying adult.
• A juniors “next level” after-school clinic will be targeting the intermediate junior, ages 14 to 17, that would like to improve to a more competitive level. Course management and strategy, advanced instruction, and on course training on etiquette will be emphasized while building on a strong fundamental base. Students will have the opportunity to play golf on the course depending on their grasp of the game. It runs from Feb. 7-Mar. 6 and the cost is $110. • Couples golf Saturday’s is a clinic designed for players of all caliber that would like to learn the game of golf with their husband, or wife, or significant other in a casual setting. Students should have some experience but it is not required. The fee is $150 per couple. The five sessions will include fundamentals of golf and on-course instruction. All classes are one hour in duration and classes are limited to the first four couples. It runs Feb. 23 to March 22, April 5 to May 3, and May 17 to June 21. • A junior “rookies” spring break camp offers classes for juniors from the ages of 6 to 11 that have no or a limited knowledge of the game of golf. The focus is to make the game fun, while giving students the basic fundamentals of the modern golf swing. It is recommended that students bring their own clubs, but a limited amount of clubs will be available for use. The cost is $99. It runs from March 24 to 28. • A ladies night out clinic for those 18 and over has been the most popular clinic at Napa Golf Course. Attendees will enjoy a more relaxing atmosphere of learning. This class is for the beginner or the novice that is looking to improve their game. It runs March 3 to 31, April 14 to May 12, and May 19 to June 16. • A ladies Sunday clinic is designed to assist participants to further their knowledge and skills and concentrate on the actual playing of the game. Participants must have completed a “Ladies Night Out” clinic or have a knowledge of the game that is above the beginner level and own a set of golf clubs. Cal Ripken/Babe Ruth sign-ups resume Feb. 9
The last round of sign-ups for the spring Cal Ripken/Babe Ruth baseball 2008 season will be held at Replay Sports at its new location at 958 Lincoln Ave., on Feb. 9 and 16, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and Feb. 13, from 5 to 7 p.m. A player’s age on April 30 is their playing age for the 2008 season.
The cost for rookies (ages 6, 7 and 8) is $90. The cost for minors (ages 9 and 10) is $120. The cost for majors (ages 11 and 12) is $120. The cost for the 13-15 division is $160. The cost for the 16-18 division is $200.
Last-chance sign-ups are Feb, 23 at the Kennedy Park ballfield, from 8 to 10 am., with tryouts for the major division (11 and 12 year olds) to begin at 10 a.m., and tryouts for the 13-15 division to begin at noon.

Napa Night Hawks pasta dinner Feb. 9
The Napa Night Hawks’ all-you-can-eat pasta dinner, with beer and wine included, is Feb. 9 at Riesling Hall at the Napa Valley Expo. Doors open at 6 p.m. and dinner starts at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $40 in advance and $45 at the door. Proceeds benefit Napa Pop Warner football and cheer.
The dinner menu includes pasta, catered by Filippi’s, salad, Sciambra bread, Caffino coffee, and beer and wine. There is no corkage fee if you choose to bring your own wine.
There will be a D.J., with dancing until midnight. The theme this year is “Dining Through the Decades.” Join the fun by dressing in your ’50s, ’60s or ’70s clothes.
There will be a silent auction and raffles.

KNBR 680/Giants 2008 Winter FanFest set for Feb. 9
The KNBR 680/Giants Winter FanFest presented by the Scottsdale Convention & Visitors Bureau will take place at AT&T Park on Feb. 9, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission to the FanFest and parking in Giants Lot A is free.
This year’s FanFest at AT&T Park will feature the KNBR live broadcast stage at home plate, which will provide more fans the opportunity to watch the broadcast from any Lower Box or Club Level seat in the ballpark. The broadcast will also be carried live on the high-definition Mitsubishi Electric Diamond Vision scoreboard in center field as well as on the multitude of HD flat panel screens located throughout the ballpark.
Fans will have greater access to the ballpark than in the past, with the opportunity to go “behind the scenes” with self-guided tours of both the Giants and visitors clubhouses, batting cages, dugouts and press box. There will be two levels of interactive games and activities, a Kids Zone and access to the field’s warning track.
Giants manager Bruce Bochy and many of his players and coaches, including the newest Giant, Aaron Rowand, and teammates Barry Zito, Matt Cain, Tim Lincecum, Dave Roberts, Brian Wilson, Kevin Frandsen and Dan Ortmeier, are just a handful of the current Giants who are scheduled to sign autographs, pose for photos and participate in Q&A sessions throughout FanFest. In addition, Giants broadcasters will be in attendance along with all of the KNBR 680 radio personalities.
The Giants and KNBR will also welcome a number of Giants alumni to FanFest as the season-long celebration begins to commemorate the Giants 50th anniversary in San Francisco.
Giants six-game packages for the 2008 season will be on sale, which include tickets to the Dodgers and A’s series and select fireworks nights, along with season tickets and group tickets. Giants individual game tickets will go on sale March 8.

The award-winning Napa Saints cheer program is now accepting applications for all coaching positions for the 2008 season. Interviews will begin in February and March. A’s plan to celebrate 40th anniversary season in Oakland
OAKLAND — The Oakland Athletics will celebrate their 40th anniversary season in the East Bay with a season-long promotional campaign highlighting the championship tradition, the players and memorable moments that have contributed to the glorious and colorful past of one of baseball’s most successful franchises over the last 40 years.
The first of a series of promotional events will launch on the A’s official website —oaklandathletics.com/40 — on March 1, when on-line voting commences to determine the 40 Greatest Moments in Oakland A’s History, along with the selection of the A’s 40th Anniversary team. The countdown of the Top 10 moments in Oakland A’s history will begin in-stadium on Diamond Vision beginning on Sept. 11, with the top moment in Oakland history unveiled on Sept. 21. The A’s 40th Anniversary team will be introduced during a pre-game ceremony on Sept. 20.
Former A’s players will join in the various festivities throughout the year.

Napa Saints fundraiser at SaberCats game March 15
The Arena Football League’s San Jose SaberCats will donate to the Napa Saints youth football program one-half of sales of tickets bought by those who say they are supporting the Napa Saints at their 7:30 p.m. game on March 15 against the Arizona Rattlers at San Jose’s HP Pavilion.
The event is part of the Cats in the Community Fundraiser Program and is designed to benefit Little League or Pop Warner teams, high school athletic booster clubs, and any other non-profit or charitable organizations. In addition to donating more from tickets sales this year, the SaberCats have also expanded the number of seating options available at the Arena — excluding Sideline Club seats.

Junior golf sessions at Vintner’s Golf Club on Saturdays
The Vintner’s Golf Club in Yountville is offering junior golf sessions every Saturday. Sessions, open to all ages and all skill levels, run from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. and 3 to 5 p.m.

Napa Valley MAGA accepting new golf members
The Napa Valley Mexican American Golf Association is looking for new members. Men and women age 21 and older are eligible to join MAGA, which plays a tournament schedule monthly in Napa, Solano, Santa Rosa and Contra Costa counties.
There are also openings for directors on the organization’s board. This is the 39th year of Napa Valley MAGA.

Napa High Athletic Hall of Fame accepting nominations
Nominations for the Napa High School Athletic Hall of Fame — which celebrated its 11th year in 2007 — are open until March 15.
Former Napa High athletes who graduated in 1993 or before are eligible for consideration this year. The Hall of Fame is made up of athletes, coaches and special category inductees.
Nomination forms, detailed instructions and information about the nomination and selection procedures are available by calling the NHS Athletic Hall of Fame Foundation office at 226-5818.
The purpose of the NHS Athletic HOF Foundation is to honor the school and its athletics department by recognizing the achievements of former athletes, coaches and others who have made significant contributions to the school’s athletic programs.
Completed nomination forms should be mailed to the Foundation office at 575 Lincoln Ave., Room 300 B, Napa, CA 94558 with a postmark no later than March 15. There is a $20 fee for each nomination.
