A prayer vigil is set for 7 p.m. Wednesday for the Napa grandmother, her boyfriend and her two grandchildren who died in a house fire early Monday morning.

The vigil will be at 1418 Vale Avenue, the house where Aurora Castanon, 58, her grandsons, Matthew Castanon, 12, Giovanni Mendez, 4, and Aurora’s longtime boyfriend, Eutimio Torres, 37, died in a 5 a.m. Monday fire.
Laura Zepeda, a long-time friend of Norma Mendez, mother of the boys who died in the fire, paid her respects early Tuesday morning at the Vale Avenue home.

“We need people to show their support and come to the prayer vigil tomorrow night. That is the only way the family is going to make it through this nightmare. We need prayers, friends, family and support," said Zepeda.
“Matthew and my son grew up together. This is tragedy is like off the charts. Norma is my best friend. I don’t know she going to get through this,” Zepeda said.

" I think that it is wonderful that the friends of this family want to hold a prayer vigil, however, I think that the venue is not appropriate. Prayer vigils are meant to be uplifting, encouraging, and reflective. To do it in front of the house where the victims died seems strange. What about that poor mother who has lost her family? Must she stand outside the very place where her family perished? It seems that it would only add stress and grief rather than encourage and uplift. Perhaps a park or a church would be better places for such an event. "

" I encourage all Napans to join this beautiful family in gathering to honor and pray for their loved ones. I am a neighbor and as hard as it will be, I will be there. "

" What about having it at Esther Deaver park, a few blocks away? This is such a horrible tragedy and we hope the families know that our hearts are with the victims. Check your smoke detectors, folks. They save lives. "
