Napa Valley Swim Team turns in best winter zone meet in seven years

The Napa Valley Swim Team recently placed fourth at the Zone 3 Winter Championships, its highest in seven years in the University of San Francisco-hosted meet.
It was a balanced performance from all age groups, led by Megan Minor, Colby Gibbs, Mason Miller, Elise Roberts, Megan Morris, Jesse Risinger and Chardonnay Biter-Mundt. Swimmers scored team points by placing in the top 10 in each event.
In the girls 8-and-under age division, Annika Erickson, 8, achieved two new A times in the 25-yard backstroke and the 50 back. She placed sixth in the 50 breaststroke and 50 back and seventh in the 100 individual medley. Quinn Jensen achieved a new A time in the 25 back, placing 10th. Belle Calforda, 8, was third in the 25 butterfly, fifth in the 50 back, sixth in the 25 freestyle and seventh in the 50 free.
The boys 8-and-under division saw Cayd Roberts placed seventh in both the 25 and 50 breaststrokes, and Quinn McMichael was 10th in the 100 IM.
In the girls 9-10 division, Megan Minor, 9, won the 100 back, placed second in both the 50 free (29.78 seconds) and 100 IM (1:14.86) with new AAA times, and was also second in both the 50 back and 100 free. Madison Perna, 9, achieved 100 percent best times in the 100 back and 50 back, achieving her first Junior Olympic time with a 38.45. Nathalie Brewster, 9, swam the 100 back and achieved a new best time.
Rose Ballantine, 10, achieved her first Far Western time in the 50 breaststroke with a fifth-place time (40.12), notched new AA and JO times with a fifth in the 100 IM, a new AA time with a fifth in the 100 breaststroke, and a new A time with a seventh in the 50 back. Madeline Anderson, 10, achieved 100 percent best times while placing sixth in the 50 breaststroke, achieving a new A time, and placing eighth in the 50 back. Mia Facey, 10, won the 100 fly with a new best time and grabbed ninths in the 100 IM (1:23.05), where she had a new A time, and the 50 fly. The team of Minor, Ballantine, Facey and Anderson captured the 200 medley relay with a new Far Western time (2:22.74) and was also second in the 200 free relay (2:07.05).
In the boys 9-10 division, Colby Gibbs, 10, achieved new AAA and Pacific Reportable times while winning the 200 free (2:17.94) and also won the 50 free, 100 free and 100 back. He also placed second in the 50 back with a new AAA time (34.51). Mason Miller, 10, achieved 100 percent best times, winning the 100 fly with a new AAA time, achieving new AA and Far Western times while placing fourth in both the 50 fly (33.91) and 100 back (1:16.73), achieving a new A and JO time with a fifth in the 50 free (31.25) and placing second in the 200 IM.
Rio Barnes, 10, achieved new JO times while placing fifth in the 200 free (2:34.82) and sixth in the 50 back (38.44), and new best times with fifths in the 100 free and 100 back. Bradley John Erickson, 10, achieved 100 percent best times while placing sixth in the 100 fly and ninth in the 50 breaststroke and 100 yard breaststroke. Noah Douglas, 10, earned new BB times in the 200 free, 100 free, 100 back (10th place) and 100 IM, and also placed 10th in the 50 back. Also representing NVST in this division was 10 year old Louis Ayers.
The team of Gibbs, Miller, Barnes and Erickson placed second in the 200 medley relay, achieving a new Far Western time (2:23.39), and took second in the 200 free relay (2:07.51).
In the girls 11-12 division, Leigh Jensen, 11, achieved 100 percent best times while swimming the 50 back and 100 back. Alex Swanson, 11, had best times in the 50 breaststroke, where she placed ninth, and 50 free, 200 free and 100 breaststroke.
Elise Roberts, 12, swam a 33.14 in the 50 yard breaststroke to beat her old NVST record (33.24), achieving a new AAAA time and placing third. She took third in the 100 breaststroke, fourth in the 400 IM, fifth in both the 100 IM and 200 IM. Ximena Mendieta, 12, achieved a new Far Western time in the 100 fly (1:08.25), placing sixth, achieved best times with a seventh in the 50 fly and eighth in the 200 IM, and was fifth in the 400 IM.
Melinda Miller, 12, achieved 100 percent best times in the 50 free, 100 free, 50 back and 100 back. Nicole Rossi, 12, took eighth in the 100 free with a new best time. The team of Roberts, Mendieta, Rossi and Swanson placed third in the 200 free relay with a new Far Western time (1:53.66) and took fourth in the 200 medley relay (2:07.27).
The 11-12 boys division saw 11-year-olds Daniel Richardson and Cody Dusky notch new best times in the 100 free and 50 free, respectively. Eric Boessenecker, 12, achieved 100 percent best times. He achieved his first JO times in the 100 yard free (1:00.42), placing second, and the 200 free (2:15.77), placing eighth, achieved new A times in both 100 and 200 frees, and took fourth in the 500 free and eighth in the 50 free.
In the 13-14 girls division, Megan Morris, 13, achieved a new Senior Section Time in the 100 back with a winning time of 1:01.01, placed second in the 50 free (25.43), and fourth in both the 100 free (56.05) and 200 free (2:15.50). Chloe Hubbard, 13, achieved a new A time in the 50 free (28.09), a new best time in the 100 fly with a fifth, and took eighth in the 400 IM and had a new best time in the 100 free.
Olivia Husted, 13, was fourth in the 100 breaststroke in a new best time and seventh in the 50 free. Madeline Miller, 14, achieved a new A time in the 50 free (28.68). Erica Facey, 13, teamed with Husted, Hubbard and Morris on a third in the 200 medley relay, posting a new Far Western time (2:01.48). They also took fourth in the 400 medley relay, while Morris, Husted, Miller and Hubbard were fifth in the 200 free relay.
In the 13-14 boys division, Seth Anderson, 13, achieved 100 percent best times with a seventh in the 50 free (25.46), a ninth in the 100 free (55.86), and eighths in the 100 back (1:04.82) and 200 IM (2:24.95). Sam Starr, 13, had 100 percent best times with a ninth in the 200 IM (2:28.00). Jake Kennedy, 13, swam the 100 breaststroke in a new best time and Theo St. Francis, 13, had 100 percent best times. The team of Anderson, Jonathan Fidler, Sam Starr and Kennedy took sixth in the 400 free relay (3:57.89) and seventh in the 200 medley relay (2:01.45).
The girls 15-16 division saw Breanna Weber, 15, place seventh in the 500 free (5:46.37) and Corrine Schafle, 15, take ninth in the 100 breaststroke (1:16.09).
In the 15-16 boys division, Jesse Risinger, 15, claimed the 200 IM (2:06.93) and took third in both the 200 free (1:50.56) and 500 free (5:05.84), and fourth in the 400 IM (4:38.16). McCoy Ayers, 15, placed fourth in the 200 back (2:12.71), seventh in the 500 free (5:15.71) and ninth in the 100 back (1:02.33). Nick Kozlowski, 15, placed 10th in the 200 back (2:26.46).
For the 17-18 girls division, Chardonnay Biter-Mundt, 17, captured the 50 free (24.15), the 100 free (53.13) and the 200 free (1:56.22), and took second in the 500 free (5:12.53). Danielle Carey, 17, placed third in both the 100 fly (1:01.53) and 200 fly (2:27.36), and sixth in both the 200 IM (2:24.24) and 400 IM (5:19.97). Kelly Amodeo, 17, achieved 100 percent best times while taking sixth in both the 100 back (1:02.41) and 100 fly (1:10.01), seventh in the 50 free (27.96) and eighth in the 100 free (1:02.41).
Mary Kate Fidler, 17, placed fifth in the 100 breaststroke (1:13.51) and sixth in the 50 free (27:14). The team of Biter-Mundt, Carey, Corrine Schafle and Breanna Weber placed sixth in the 200 free relay (1:46.53). Biter-Mundt, Mary Kate Fidler, Schafle and Weber were seventh in the 400 free relay. Amodeo, Fidler, Carey and Biter-Mundt teamed to finish eighth in the 200 medley relay, and the team of Amodeo, Schafle, Carey and Biter-Mundt were eighth in the 400 medley relay.
The team will host its next meet Feb. 22-24 at Napa Valley College.
