Rob Becker’s “Defending the Caveman” is a worldwide, blockbuster theatrical hit that has played in more than 30 countries in 15 different languages.

It was such a hit this past summer at Lincoln Theater that it is returning for a one-night performance this Saturday at 8 p.m.

“We went in August and we loved it,” said Debbye Hanson of Napa who, along with her husband Ray, took another couple to see the show, “We laughed the entire time. I would recommend it and I would see it again.”

Comedian Rob Becker wrote “Defending the Caveman” over a three-year period during which he made an informal study of anthropology, prehistory, psychology, sociology and mythology. This prehistoric look at the battle of the sexes played for two years on Broadway and is full of humorous scenarios that celebrate the differences between men and women and insight into the ways that they relate.

“My husband and I saw Rob Becker in ‘Caveman’ in San Francisco nearly a decade ago,” said Laura Kostelac of Napa, “we loved the show even more the second time we saw it in Yountville last summer. It’s a classic. It’s just hilarious.”

Both sexes roar with laughter and recognition, lots of affectionate nudging goes on during the show and couples are commonly seen leaving the performance holding hands. “Caveman” also has a loyal following in the therapy community, having been seen and recommended by thousands of psychologists and counselors.

“Caveman” opened in San Francisco in 1991 before moving to Broadway in 1995. After 702 performances at the Helen Hayes Theater, Caveman entered the record books as the longest running solo play in Broadway history.

Vince Valentine, the Philadelphia native who will play the caveman this weekend, made his stage debut when he was 11 years old. He has performed in comedy clubs along the east coast, played Christopher in a touring production of “The Soapranos,” an interactive parody of the HBO TV series, and also starred in “Joey and Maria’s Italian Wedding” and “The Godfathers’ Meshuggener Wedding.” Valentine co-wrote and starred in the independent feature film, “Shut Up And Eat” and then in 2007 he came to New York’s Midtown International Theatre Festival to star in “What Fools We Lovers Be.”
