St. John’s eighth-graders take league title
The St. John the Baptist Catholic School eighth-grade boys basketball team completed an 11-0 season Saturday with a 38-33 win over St. Francis, capturing the North Bay Catholic School League championship.
St. John’s, which held all of its practices on its playground and had to play all of its games on the road, was down to five eighth-graders after Greg Swanson was sidelined with a broken wrist.
But trusty seventh-graders Chris Jordan, Robert Reynoso and Tyler Whitehead, who have been rotating in with the group for four years, helped pick up the slack with their quickness and determination.
Kurtis Sylvester and Gianni Nola led the team with 180 and 140 points, respectively, and Joey Moussa, Ross Walker and Adam Jensen led in rebounding.
