As if Napa/Solano county motorists didn’t have enough to deal with on their early morning commute over Jamieson Canyon in pea-soup fog, an overturned big rig added big time to their commuter headaches.

Although the solo crash caused frazzled nerves and tested the patience of the motorists, the driver of the 18-wheeler, Stephen Butler, 54, of Penngrove was not hurt.
Butler was westbound on Jamieson Canyon Road about 8 a.m. Tuesday, driving a big rig pulling a double set of trailers with bottom dumps, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Jaret Paulson.

The trailers were loaded with sand.
Traffic had slowed for the fog, Paulson said. “The truck driver may have going to fast to stop soon enough.”

Butler hit the brakes and the rear trailer flipped over, spilling sand over both lanes of the roadway just before the highway narrows to two lanes by the Chardonnay Golf Club.
Traffic came to creep, as motorists inched their way around the flipped trailer on the shoulder of the road, avoiding the sand on the roadway.

It took highway crews time to clean up the spilled sand, while they waited for a special tow truck to show up to upright the overturned trailer.

Westbound traffic was backed up clear to Highway 80 in Cordelia, while eastbound traffic was narrowed to one lane until the spill was cleaned up.

The highway was fully open by 10:30 a.m.

" Come on, this is Napa. They'll only report accidents that directly/indirectly affect how people get into the valley to go wine-tasting. "

" proudmom- You're counting on the register to report in a timely fashion on a local matter. good luck with that. i usually check the chronicle first, particularly for things i know happened but aren't in this rag yet. anyone want to start a competing local newspaper? "
