Stanhopea Orchid Program
The regular monthly meeting of the Napa Valley Orchid Society will begin at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25 at the Napa Senior Activity Center, 1500 Jefferson St., Napa.
The guest speaker at the meeting will be Dr. Douglas Pulley of Los Gatos, who will discuss the culture of growing Stanhopea orchids, popularly known as one of the Bucket orchids, due to the shape of the flower’s lip.
Professionally Dr. Pulley is a ophthamologist.
He has been raising orchids for more than 33 years, and is the world’s biggest breeder of Stanhopeas, having made half of all the hybrids ever registered.
His plants have won more than 25 American Orchid Society awards.
He has served as vice president and president of the Santa Clara Orchid Society at total of seven years and has spoken at nearly all of the Bay Area orchid societies.
Orchids in bloom will be displayed and discussed by society members.
Refreshments will be served during the intermission.
Everyone who is interested in growing orchids and in possibly joining the society is cordially invited to attend this free discussion./Register
