Artist Clinton Hulse presents a lecture and discussion about the construction of his arrows, which are in the museum’s current show “The Heart & Art of Collecting.” After learning how early inhabitants of the Napa Valley chipped their tools and arrowheads from obsidian, Hulse decided to create his own stylized arrows incorporating fly-tying techniques with his own arrowheads and memorabilia. He’ll also give a demonstration of obsidian carving. Free with admission

The museum leads a bus trip to the Legion of Honor in San Francisco for the Marie-Antoinette and the Petit Trianon at Versailles exhibition. The Petit Trianon was Marie-Antoinette’s personal retreat at Versailles, and one of the few places where she could express herself and her taste. Through the decorative arts, paintings and sculpture that adorned the Petit Trianon, visitors glimpse the true style of the queen and see how it played a role in the history of France.

A Conversation with Collectors

Bob Hornberger, who collects railroad lamps and lanterns, and Jerry Berg, a collector of juvenile western memorabilia, lead a discussion of how and why we engage in collecting. Their prized possessions are included in the current exhibition, The Heart & Art of Collecting.
