Dreamweavers welcomes 2008 with a much-welcome promise of laughter as it presents “Weekend Comedy,” opening this weekend.

Written by a husband-and-wife team, Sam and Jeanne Bobrick, the show offers a decidedly comic look at life, love, marriage and relationships.
Frank and Peggy, married for 23 years and set in their ways, have booked a cabin in the Catskills for a weekend. Frank, a worrier, is reluctant to leave home and his job in office supplies. Peggy is hoping the weekend getaway will inject some romance back into their marriage.

A booking mistake, however, has also rented the cabin to attractive young — and unmarried — couple, Jill and Tony, who show up along with Peggy and Frank. It’s late, no one wants to leave, and they end up sharing the cabin.
Romance goes by the wayside as the contrasting couples get to know each other. The generation gap is in evidence: Frank has worked hard all his life, while Tony comes from a wealthy family. Peggy cooks everything from scratch, while Jill offers up frozen dinners. The younger couple listens to rock ‘n’ roll; Frank prefers silence. Jill and Tony talk about their travels to Europe; Frank thinks a business trip to Cincinnati is good enough. The two men in particular spar verbally back and forth about life, work and relationships. Sparks fly when Tony calls Frank “a man without poetry, without dreams, without vision,” — and worse considers him “old.”

Frank responds by challenging Tony to a 50-yard dash.
Director Julia Glattfelt credits her cast and crew with true “the show must go on” spirit, as most of the rehearsals, set building and technical design took place during the always busy holiday season.

The cast and crew, a mixture of Dreamweavers veterans and newcomers, includes Bruce Carlton, June Alane Reif, Lindsy Kail and David Ewing. Krisi Pilkington is stage manager and Lu Kenmonth is running lights and sound for this production.
