Hispanic Network recognizes leaders

The Napa County Hispanic Network holds it annual Lifetime Achievement and Friends of the Network Awards presentation on Tuesday at 6 p.m., at the Napa Valley Opera House, 1000 Main St. in Napa.

Recipients of this year's Lifetime Achievement Awards are Dr. Robert Moore and Dr. Lisa Miri. The event is free, and will open with a wine and hors d'oeuvres reception.
Moore is the medical director for Clinic Ole, which has provided a wide range of health care services to low-income residents of Napa County for the past 35 years. Moore is recognized for his dedication to helping improve the health of the 22,000 patients of Clinic Ole, and has been a driving force behind the clinic's tremendous growth over the last decade. Moore is also recognized for working collaboratively with others in the community to improve the system of primary health care and community prevention efforts for the entire community.

Miri is the principal of Shearer Charter Elementary School. She is recognized for her contributions to Latino children, families, and the entire Latino community in the areas of access and equity issues for English Learners, increasing the participation and involvement of Latino families in the education process, linking parents to community resources, and helping to build a library of resources on second language learners for teachers and principals.
Recipients of the Friends of the Network Awards are: Marlena Garcia, program director for ParentsCAN, a parent-child advocacy network for families of children with disabilities; Bruce Killen, mental health therapist for Napa County Mental Health; Oscar Ortiz, sergeant with Napa County Sheriff's Department; and Rene Rubio, program advisor and mentor for Napa Valley College's Math Engineering Science Achievement program.

Lifetime Achievement Awards are presented each year to individuals whose contributions have helped to improve the quality of life for Latinos in Napa County.
Friends of the Network awards are presented to individuals who have helped the Napa County Hispanic Network work toward achieving its mission of promoting higher education, building community partnerships, and achieving an equal voice on countywide issues.
