An Angwin man was taken into custody after a woman accused him of roughing her up at her residence in Pope Valley on Monday.

When deputies responded to the woman’s home on Lariat Drive, she told them Ernest Crain has assaulted her, sheriff’s Capt. John Robertson said.
The woman had a cut on her chin, Robertson said. She told deputies that it happened when Crain grabbed the telephone from her, he said. “She also said he grabbed her by the hair and tried to throw her to the ground.”

Crain had left the woman’s home by the time deputies arrived.
He was contacted on Tuesday at his home on Friesen Drive in Angwin and taken to Napa County jail.

Crain, 46, was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence, grabbing the telephone from the woman and violating a restraining order.
Domestic violence arrest

Police officers answered a call early Tuesday morning for a fight between a man and woman at a hotel on Silverado Trail.

When they arrived they found a woman suffering from a cut to her forehead, a bloody nose and fat lip, Capt. John Robertson said.

The woman told deputies that Phil Hart had assaulted her, Robertson said.

Hart was taken into custody at the scene.

He was booked into the county jail on felony domestic violence.

The woman refused medical attention, Robertson said.

Window smashed, purse stolen

A woman reported that the passenger window of her vehicle had been smashed and her purse was stolen on Tuesday.

The victim’s car was parked in parking lot at Robert Louis Stevenson Park, north of St. Helena.

The woman left the car locked and when she returned, she discovered the broken window and that her purse was missing, Capt. John Robertson said.

She told deputies that her missing purse contained her check book, cell phone, gift cards and cash.

Robertson cautions the public about leaving valuables such as a purse in plain sight inside of a vehicle.

“Even if you lock your car, there is the chance your valuables could be stolen,” he said. “It is best to lock your valuables in the trunk or put them out of sight of anyone who happens to be passing by.”

Crash injures Napan

John Bull of Napa was seriously hurt early Sunday morning when his pickup ran off the road and plowed into an oak tree on Big Ranch Road, south of Garfield Lane, California Highway Patrol Officer Jaret Paulson said.

Bull, 20, was northbound on the roadway when his Ford Ranger pickup drifted across the road and hit the tree, Paulson said.

“Alcohol is not a factor in the crash,” he said.

Bull suffered numerous cuts and broken bones, Paulson said. He was taken to Queen of the Valley Hospital.

" Could we pick a more professional term than "roughed up" for a headline, maybe? "
