Vintage High student wins medal
Petty Officer First Class Dave Cornes of the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps was awarded the Sons of the American Revolution Bronze Good Citizenship Medal on Nov. 3, 2007, at the Mare Island Museum.
The SAR Bronze Good Citizenship Medal recognizes persons whose achievements are noteworthy in their school and community and is given in recognition of the Cadet’s Leadership, Military Bearing, and Excellence of Character, Scholarship, and Citizenship.
Cornes, a junior at Vintage High School, has his sights set on a military career and plans to apply to the U.S. Naval Academy. He is the lead petty officer for the Rear Admiral Richard O’Kane Division that drills monthly at the California Maritime Academy in Vallejo.
Since joining in 2004 Cornes has earned several ribbons including community service, color guard and a special commendation for assisting in the rescue of missing Alzheimer’s patient during EMT training.
The award was presented to Cornes at the annual fundraising dinner sponsored by the Navy League Council of Vallejo who helps to fund the Sea Cadet Unit. The President of the Redwood Empire SAR, Mr. Roger Rochlen, presented the award.
