Dear editor, As we wrap up our 2007 Jog-A-Thon fundraiser at St. John the Baptist Catholic School, I would like to publicly thank the many people who helped to make it a success.

Our business sponsors contributed more than $8,000 to our event this year. Along with the efforts of our students and their family and friends, we raised a combined total of more than $28,000. The contribution of each student, staff member, business sponsor, alum and volunteer made a difference in the outcome of this event.
Special thanks to our principal, Mrs. Jordan, for her support. Mrs. Jordan, along with our seventh-grade teacher, Mrs. Picard, and our talented student council entertained and motivated our students along the way. With the support of so many throughout the year, St. John the Baptist Catholic School is able to continue to offer standards-based education along with the latest technology in a Christian environment. As chairperson for the Jog-A-Thon for the past several years, I am constantly amazed at the generosity of so many people. Thank you!

" Something of a contrast here. St. John's students wear uniforms (church) and Public schools are more interested in ACLU politics (state). Having had experience with both, better educated students matriculate from the church. "

" Well "JimClark" I cannot afford to pay for my children to attend private school however I do think they are very well educated. It is not only the public schools job to teach my children but it is my job as a parent as well. "

" NapaMom: Thank you for your insight. My daughter was in public school K-12. Her Mother and I excited her imagination and her dreams. My wife and I gave our time togive the same to our daughter's classmates. I see several of them and am rewarded they remember me. That is as far as I will go here. Our Daughter is someone who has a future because her parents spent their most premium time challenging her mind and helping her to learn more than what she was NOT getting from public "education".
I can only imagine what other parents could take some measure of pride in if they had made the same commitment and provided what all parents should take the real responsibility for.
Public “education” is an oxymoron (look it up in the dictionary). Even though there might be a public version of education, the pioneers insisted their children learn to read, write and do numbers. The school marm’s back then were accountable to the locals. "
