Admission is free to Copia in January and February, and Sonoma is the focus of January's programs.

January's Taste of Copia lunch is "From Here to the Next County: Sonoma" and on the menu is Dungeness Crab Bisque, Five Cheese Ravioli with Goat Cheese Walnut Squash and Blood Orange and Campari Granita. It's Fridays at 1 p.m. and these popular lunches sell out fast. $50 per person, $40 for Copia members.
Sonoma chef John Ash will present a program "The Wild West with John Ash" Jan. 6 at 1 p.m. He'll be drawing from his books "America Game Cooking" and "From the Earth to the Table" for a wild menu that includes Wild Mushroom Paté, Wild Mushrooms Baked in Parchment Beggar's Purses and Loin of Venison with Blackberry Sage Sauce, all served with Sonoma wines. The cost is $55, $45 for members.

The bounty of Sonoma is celebrated at a walk-around tasting Jan. 12, 1-4 p.m. Russian River pinots, Alexander Valley merlots, Sonoma Valley cabs, Dry Creek zins and Carneros chardonnays will be out for tasting along with Sonoma's artisan products. Admission is $45 general, $35 for members.
For another tasting of Sonoma wines, Copia's new wine guy Kevin Toomajian leads "Guided Wine Flights: Come Fly With Me," Sunday. Jan. 6 at 11:30 a.m. and Saturday, Jan. 19 at 11 a.m., $35 general, $25 members.

Another special event in January will be the Wine, Cuisine and Art of Mexico, a walk-around tasting Jan. 26, noon-3 p.m. It explores the up and coming wine region of Baja, where 90 percent of Mexico's wine grapes are being grown. Vintners, chefs and artists from this region will be on hand. Admission is $30 general, $20 for members. For information visit www.copia.org/mexico.
Also on the agenda is "Fish Forever with Paul Johnson" Saturday, Jan. 19 ($45 general, $35 members) Johnson, owner of the Monterey Fish Market, has just published "Fish Forever," a guide to buying and preparing environmentally sustainable seafood. He and Copia's culinary director Jacquelyn Buchanan will serve a lunch that includes a Warm Winter Salad, New England Fish Chowder, Fresh House-baked Bread and Grapefruit granita with biscotti.

And finally, also in January, Copia celebrates Mozart's birthday with a special tea, Sunday, Jan. 27, 1:30-3 p.m. ($45 general, $35 members). In addition to tea and finger sandwiches, scones and tarts, they'll be serving specialties from Mozart's homeland, Viennese sweets, including Sachertorte and, of course, kaffe mit schlag.

In addition Copia offers regular daily events, including garden tours, cooking demos, Wine 101, winetasting at the Wine Spectator table, an introduction to food and wine pairing and a wine blending workshop. Also on view is "Wine Across America," photographs from Charles O'Rear's new book, based on a road trip exploring the wineries.

" I am trilled to have the chance to see Copia from the inside. Thanks for allowing us "locals" to view this posh establishment at no charge. I would have liked to see the focus this month be on "Napa", there are lots of people that live here that don't know much about our valley, other than grapes. We should teach them to be proud of were they live and enjoy it, not just think it is all for tourists. "
