Dear editor, This letter is in response to the Cuttings Wharf family that lost its dog recently.

We witnessed exactly what happened as we were headed to the RV storage area. It happened in a split second. The dog ran across in front of us and directly between the rear tires and boat trailer tires of the vehicle that hit him. We also were outraged that the driver did not come back. We wanted the young boy who lost his pet to know exactly what happened.
In all fairness, we don’t think the driver was speeding, as he had just come from the boat launch less than a block away, and it is doubtful that anyone would have been able to prevent this tragic accident. I even drove down their street the next day, trying to see if anyone knew who the owner was, but no one was home. It was very upsetting to us also and we know of no other way to get the word to the family.

" Is it possible that the driver was unaware he hit anything if it was with his trailor? Also, while terribly sorry for the loss of this pet, it never would of happened if the dog was properly restrained within it's own yard. I lived in the country as a child and lost a pet the same way. It was my responsibility that my pet died. I did not take the proper care that I should have. "
