If seeing the holiday ballet “The Nutcracker” is on your list of things to do this season, you can catch a local production this weekend at the Lincoln Theater in Yountville when Napa Regional Dance Company presents its version of the Tschaikovsky classic.
It’s a fully staged ballet with colorful sets, glittering costumes and fine dancing by local students. Community members also join the cast as party-goers on Christmas Eve, when the story takes place.

Ariel Cohen, a freshman at Napa High, dances the role of Clara, a young girl who receives the gift of a nutcracker at this party. Ethan Chudnow, a third grader at Vichy Elementary, plays Fritz, Clara’s rambunctious younger brother, who breaks the nutcracker, which is mended by the mysterious magician who created it. That night Clara has a fantastic dream in which she battles mice to save her nutracker and is rewarded by a visit to the Land of Sweets where she watches a show of all kinds of dancers.
Kelsey Miller, a Napa High senior, dances the role of Sugar Plum who welcomes Clara into the magical realm.   Miller, whose sister Katie was Sugar Plum in 2005, is keeping a family tradition of performing in Napa Regional’s “Nutcracker” since the first show seven years ago.

Among the other performers are Rachel Theios, Lisa Williams, RyLee McGill, Gianna Giovannoni, Adele Hennigar, Molly McClure, Sidney Tremblay and Tessa Mattfield.
