Police responded to an alarm at Napa High School Sunday night to find gang-related graffiti, threatening messages and the burglary of at least one office.

According to police reports, subjects broke into the school between 9 and 11:30 p.m. Sunday, entering the administration building through a skylight.
Once inside, "the suspects vandalized the dean's office with gang graffiti and other threatening messages," said reports. Dean Al Bahn said his Palm Pilot was stolen, and it appeared as if several drawers had been searched.

Police are unsure whether the incident is connected to the gang-related shooting Saturday night that left one Napa teenager in critical condition.
While police are investigating the possibility, said Bahn, "Just because you have gang-related graffiti doesn't mean you have a gang-related focus."

Napa High Principal Barbara Franco said that while the school is "paying a little closer attention" to safety after Saturday's shooting, "it's not in a way that needs to be alarming."
Police did not supply any additional information about the nature of the threats.

" I see that in the updated version of this story the word "maybe" has been removed from Franco's comment. Moderator, are you going to merge the two stories so all public comments can be seen? I disagree with Principal Franco. Recent incidents at Napa High ARE alarming. Not just this one. All of them, including the ones not reported. Parents need to demand that campus security measures be put into place NOW. BEFORE something tragic happens. Start by fixing the bells and PA system so they can be heard in ALL classrooms and the P.E locker rooms. Get some cameras, especially on the west and north sides of campus. Who cares about invasion of privacy if it saves a life? Put lights up NOW on Kennedy Way where it's pitch black all night, not to mention at seven a.m. so early flight kids walk in the dark. Surely this community can find the money for a few lights. Do something, anything, about the drugs on all the high school campuses, not just Napa High. Occasional dog sweeps are not helping, if those are still happening. It's impossible to get an answer to questions regarding safety from the resource officer. Maybe he's too busy and if so, what exactly is he doing? I don't mean to sound negative but with 2800 students crammed into a campus, some of them volatile personalities, it's just a matter of time before we face a more serious incident than vandalsim and we should consider this most recent break-in a wake-up call. " If Gang members have access to your palm pilot, you better be concern about what information they now have access to. Down playing Gang related incidents is foolish. Does Napa have to wait until they have bigger problems with Gangs before they take an agggressive approach towards Gangs? "

" All the gang incidents and crime that has been occurring at or near the high school should be a HUGE RED LIGHT to everyone, specially the STAFF at NHS...for god's sake just last week one of their maintenance workers had to separate a gang related fight in which one the culprits pulled out a gun? WTF? good question dmom, WTF is the police officer doing besides picking his A** on our hard earned dollar$? What are they waiting for, another school shooting to happen? I know that gangs are a HUGE problem in napa and I want to know why instead of patroling the problem areas; at any given time the police (2+) are at the local Starbucks on Soscol having a POW WOW on our dollar$? mmmm interesting... "

" My Dad works for Napa Maintenance I hope it wasn;t him who had to break up the fight and if any ever hurt him they would see a crazy fat mama searching for them!! I'll have to call him. :( "

" Gang violence is not a recent occurance, and is not only centrally located at Napa High School. It is at the fair, it is at the supermarket, and it is at all the high schools of Napa including Vintage. Gang Violence is a problem for the Whole Napa Valley. The sad fact is People only care about the violence after something devistating has happened and all these previous comments about how things need to change is evidence to that statement. Teachers and police officers are doing what they can to prevent gang violence and it is unfair to say otherwise. It takes unification on the problem. Even though many people do not agree with Franco's way of doing things you can't singally blame her. It is unfair to say police officers spend their day at starbucks. Did you ever stop to think that the five minutes you saw them there way their break from dealing with real hardcore issues. "
