Prep/College Report: Lichau leads Storm to ‘signature win’

Chad Lichau scored 27 points, hitting six 3-point baskets in the first half, as the Napa Valley College men’s basketball team beat West Valley College-Saratoga, 82-78, in the third-place game of the Skyline Tournament in San Bruno on Sunday.
Andy Medieros had 20 points and Ashton Foster scored 13 points for Napa Valley (7-7 overall), which was ahead by four points at halftime.
The Storm held on to the lead over the last eight minutes, with its biggest lead at six points with six minutes to go.
Coach Steve Ball said it was a signature win for the Storm.
“We handled their pressure really well and made excellent passes,” said Ball.
Napa Valley meets Fresno City College, the No. 1-ranked team in Northern California and the defending state champion, in the first round of the San Joaquin Delta College-Stockton tournament Friday at 5 p.m.
• San Francisco State 78, PUC 58
Brandon Monty had 19 points on 6-of-10 shooting with four rebounds, four blocked shots and two steals for visiting Pacific Union College in a 78-58 nonconference men’s basketball loss Saturday night to San Francisco State.
Pacific Union (0-7 overall) jumped out to an early 7-4 lead capped by a three-point basket by Monty, but San Francisco (6-3 overall) took a 41-31 lead at the half and went on to outrebound the Pioneers (51-32) while forcing 23 turnovers.
Pacific Union cut the Gators’ lead to 53-43 with 9:52 to go in the game. Also contributing for PUC were Dustin Mircale (13 points, four rebounds), Kameron Barnes (10 points, six rebounds), Benny Gipson (five points, three rebounds), Aren Renacker (four points), Steven Bushnell (four assists), and Johnny Young (six rebounds).
Ryan Wessels, a transfer from Napa Valley College, had two points and three rebounds for San Francisco.
Women’s College Basketball
• Skyline 80, Napa Valley 59
Jessica Zeller had 17 points, Erika Hornsby 10 and Jacquie Willis, Tasha Jackson and Cherish Bustos six apiece as the Storm fell Saturday in the East Bay Classic at Oakland’s Merritt College.
Napa Valley led by a point at halftime.
Varsity Girls Basketball
• St. Helena 39, Clear Lake 35
The Saints wrapped up their own Lady Saints Silver Oak Tournament with a third-place finish Saturday by defeating one of their North Central League I South foes in the contest to decide third place.
For St. Helena, freshman Maddy Densberger led the way with 11 points while Liliana Torres added nine points and Missy Particelli seven points.
Densberger and Kate Wignall were the Saints’ All-Tournament selections.
St. Helena improves to 5-3 overall and will visit Winters on Friday at 7 p.m.
• John Swett 37, St. Helena 28
In Friday’s semifinal, the Saints scored just seven points in the first half. Kate Wignall paced the Saints, who trailed nearly the entire game, with 11 points. Maddy Densberger scored six while Christine Shantz added four. The Saints cut the deficit to 20-17 late in the third quarter but got no closer.
• Redwood Christian 52, Calistoga 35
The Wildcats fell in Saturday’s championship game of their own Gene Duffy Holiday Classic. Redwood Christian led 13-9 after one quarter and 28-15 at halftime. Laurel Oekter-Kast led the Wildcats with 10 points. Megan Hunt added eight while Lauren Hunt tallied six.
Oekter-Kast and Lauren Hunt each were selected All-Tournament. Calistoga is now 2-4 entering Tuesday’s 5:30 p.m. home game against Upper Lake.
Varsity Boys Basketball
• Calistoga 57,
Summerfield Waldorf 41
The Wildcats won their third straight game in Saturday’s first-place game of their Gene Duffy Holiday Classic.
Calistoga (3-3) led 23-6 after one quarter on the way to victory. Raymond Fechter led the Wildcats with 18 points. Jackson McMahon added 15. Granville Fox tallied 11, followed by Jesus Cachu with eight.
McMahon was named tournament MVP. Fox was voted the tournament’s Most Valuable Defensive Player while Fechter also made All-Tournament.
