I thought we lived in a democracy rather than a socialistic state, but the burden of Peggy Smyth's "Your Turn" in the Register ("Angwin developer must play by the rules," Nov. 21) seems to call for the latter in her attempt to thwart Pacific Union College's plans to assure its desirable future of providing quality higher education to the young people of Napa County and elsewhere.

The Hope Resource Center's use permit is up for review, so now is the time to ask the question ... should the Hope Center, or any services for the homeless, be located in downtonw Napa?
