Napa Valley artists are among those participating in the Celebration of Craftswomen  Nov. 24-25 and Dec. 1-2, at Herbst Pavilion at Fort Mason Center in San Francisco.

The show is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and features a changing roster of more than 150 different artists each weekend. For more information or tickets call (415)731-5539 or visit www.celebra tionofcraftswomen.org.
The Celebration is San Francisco’s biggest holiday fine crafts retail fair, and the largest event celebrating exclusively the craft of women in America. It benefits the programs of the Women’s Building, a community center serving women and girls in San Francisco.

The Celebration of Craftswomen offers contemporary and traditional handcrafted items as well as fine art.
Admission is $8.50 for adults, $6.50 for seniors, students and disabled, and free for children ages 12 and under. A two-day pass for any two days on either weekend is $15.

San Francisco’s holiday classic ballet opens Dec. 13
When the San Francisco Ballet’s “new” “Nutcracker,” opened in 2004, the New York Times proclaimed, “This is a ‘Nutcracker’ on a grand scale … striking, elegant and beautiful.”

Set in early 20th-century San Francisco, the redesigned classic features choreography by Helgi Tomasson, scenic design by Tony Award winner Michael Yeargan, costume design by Tony Award-winner Martin Pakledinaz, lighting design by James F. Ingalls, and projection design by Wendall K. Harrington.

This year it opens Dec. 13 and runs through Dec. 30 at San Francisco’s War Memorial Opera House. The ballet presents two shows on all the days except the opening and closing ones.

San Francisco Ballet offers family nights at 7 p.m. on Dec. 18, 19, 26, 27, 28 and 29. Children can have their pictures taken with Nutcracker characters, and the first 500 children at each performance receive a gift, and at intermission, everyone is treated to complimentary milk and cookies.

San Francisco Ballet’s Children’s Enchantment Fund provides Bay Area children, who might otherwise not have access to live performing arts, the opportunity to see “The Nutcracker” free of charge. For more information, or to make a contribution, call (415) 865-2000.

Tickets for “Nutcracker” performances range from $18–$198 and may be purchased by calling (415) 865-2000,  Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets are also available online at www.sfballet.org or at the Ballet Box Office in the War Memorial Opera House, 301 Van Ness at Grove, on performance days only. Call (415) 553-4672 for more information.

The holiday sparkle hits full wattage in Berkeley when the Mark Morris Dance Group  comes to town with “The Hard Nut” Friday through Sunday, Dec. 14–16 and Thursday through Sunday, Dec. 20–23, at Zellerbach Hall. Morris’s take on Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s beloved Nutcracker ballet has become beloved in its own right, spinning a tale of family, childhood hopes and fears, fairytale menace and life-renewing love.

Tickets for “The Hard Nut” are $32- $60 and are available through the Cal Performances ticket office at Zellerbach Hall; at (510) 642-9988 to charge by phone; at www.calperformances.net; and at the door.
