Napa Valley Special Olympics takes part in run/walk event
Napa Valley Special Olympics took part in the fall classic long distance run/walk Nov. 3 and 4.
The Napa Road Racers team received the silver award for the 5K run. Earning medals were Ivan Madrigal, silver; Irene Martinez, gold; Kelly Hargis, silver; Mark Lucas, gold; and George Hylton, gold.
In the 5K walk, Casey Mason got a silver medal, Michael Bei took fifth place, and Joan Hargis got a silver medal.
In the 3K walk, the Napa Pacers got the gold award. Twila Van Damme received a gold medal, Anna Warnork took fourth place, and Kim Price got a bronze medal.

Napa High alumni hoop game tonight
Any former Napa High boys varsity basketball players who played both their junior and senior year at Napa High School are invited to play in the Napa High alumni game on Wednesday, Nov. 21.

Vintage water polo alumni game, fundraiser set for Saturday
Vintage High School’s inaugural water polo alumni game and fundraiser will be held Saturday at the site’s new pool. The pool opens at 10 a.m., and games begin at 11 a.m.
There will be a $7 per participant minimum fee, and larger donations are gratefully accepted.
All proceeds will go to purchase new equipment or to fund water polo activities at Vintage.
Teams will be formed from those attending and players will play a minimum of two quarters and a maximum of four quarters.
There may be more than four quarters played depending upon the number of attendees.
A barbecue will immediately follow, and the program will provide the grill, salad and non-alcoholic beverages.
No alcohol is permitted on school property.
Attendees will provide their own meat and dessert.
A Vintage High water polo alumni organizing group will be meeting with the goal of nominating players for a Hall of Fame at the 2008 alumni game.

Women’s handgun familiarization course Nov. 28-30
A women’s handgun familiarization course, offered by the Napa Rifle & Pistol Club, is Nov. 28, Nov. 29 and Nov. 30, from 7 to 9 p.m. each night, at the clubhouse of the Napa Rifle & Pistol Club, 2216 Monticello Rd., Napa.
This class is open to women only, and students will learn about handgun safety, the care and storage of firearms, and how to shoot both safely and accurately. The course covers the subjects that all handgun owners must know in order to shoot targets, as well as to practice the general safe use of any firearm. Students must attend all three sessions. There is a class fee of $10 to cover the cost of instruction materials, including a handgun manual.
Women who wish to bring their own handgun must also supply one box of ammunition (50 rounds) for their gun. If you do not own a handgun, one will be made available for you to shoot.

Boys and girls, ages 4 to 14, are eligible to sign up for a youth basketball preseason clinic offered by the Napa Community Resources Department. American Canyon Little League spring sign-ups continue Dec. 1
American Canyon Little League spring 2008 baseball and softball sign-ups continue Dec. 1, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Dec. 8, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. All sign-up dates will be held at the American Canyon Little League complex, 300 Hess Rd.
The season fees are $185 for youths ages 13 to 17 (Senior League), $115 for youths ages 7 to 12 (Little League), and $95 for youths ages 5 and 6 (T-Ball).
There is $10 off for each child for the early sign-ups and $10 off for each additional child in the same family.
Late sign-up dates are on Jan. 5 and Jan. 12, 2008, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Jan. 9, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the AmCan Little League complex.
A birth certificate and three proofs of residence are required at the time of registration.
Baseball players must be 5 years of age and no older than 15 years of age by April 30, 2008.
Softball players must be 7 years of age and no older than 15 years of age by Dec. 31, 2007.

Napa Little League 2008 spring baseball season sign-ups Dec. 8
Sign-ups for Napa Little League baseball will be held Dec. 8, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Garfield Park, located off Garfield Lane. No mail-in registrations will be accepted.
Only complete applications will be accepted. Application packets are available online at www.napalittleleague.org or at registration. All forms must be completed, including a parent/guardian volunteer application. New players must bring an original birth certificate and two proof of residency documents. Players returning from the 2007 spring season only need to complete an application packet unless they have moved, in which case new residency documents are also required.
Boys and girls ages 6 through 12 years old by April 30, 2008 are eligible.
The cost is $85 for those in the rookie league (6-8 year olds) and $155 for those in Little League (majors and minors, 8-12 year olds). City of Napa youth basketball league deadline Dec. 13
The city of Napa’s Community Resources Department is offering a youth basketball program.
Registration is now being accepted for the winter. The program is set up so that boys and girls, 7-12 years old, have the opportunity to learn and develop basketball skills.
The fee is $70 per player and registration will be accepted on a first come, first served basis through Dec. 13.
Each team consists of 10-12 players of the same age group to ensure equal playing time for everyone. Each team practices one hour and one day per week, between Monday and Friday at a school to be announced.
Practices will begin the week of Jan. 7 and games will begin Feb. 2. This program has been designed to provide the opportunity for a positive learning experience in a fun environment for boys and girls of all skill levels. Volunteer coaches are always needed and should sign up early for the greatest selection of practice times.

Napa Valley Water Polo to offer winter camp starting Jan. 7
Napa Valley Water Polo will offer a winter camp from Jan. 7 through Feb. 28, 2008, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The location is to be announced. The camp goes Monday through Thursday, with the boys camp on Monday and Wednesday and the girls camp on Tuesday and Thursday. There is no camp on Jan. 21 and Feb. 18.

The Mare Island Sports Center in Vallejo is offering indoor youth soccer leagues for boys and girls in the under-8, under-10, under-12, under-14, under-16 and under-19 divisions.
