A Napa man sustained major injuries when he crashed his car into a tree along Highway 121 Thursday. The California Highway Patrol said that alcohol may have been a factor in the wreck.

Michael Schill, 52, was driving a 1988 Jaguar north on Highway 121, about two miles north of Vichy Avenue, at 3:10 p.m., when he drifted off the roadway and hit a tree on the west side of the road, according to the CHP.
Moments after the crash, firefighters extricated Schill from the vehicle and an air ambulance transported him to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. A 5-year-old boy who was the passenger in the vehicle sustained minor injuries and was transported to Queen of the Valley Medical Center. The CHP said that the cause of the wreck is under investigation and that alcohol appears to be a factor in the collision. Schill and the boy wore their seat belts, according to the CHP, and the conditions on the roadway at the time of the wreck were dry and clear.

" That's terrible. How can a parent get behind the wheel with their child as a passenger when they have been drinking? The courts really should come down hard people that do that. "

" How can you blame "Monticello road" if in fact alcohol was a "factor"? Thank goodness they were wearing seat belts and the child wasn't hurt to badly. "
