Napa Police are searching for the person responsible for a sexual assault Thursday evening at a home on the 3900 block of Solano Avenue.

Police records indicate a 39-year-old woman was home alone at 10:35 p.m., when she heard a knock at her door. She answered the door and a man pushed his way into the home and closed the door behind him, police said.
The man then backhanded the woman in her face, knocking her to the ground police said. He pulled her pants down and sexually assaulted her, according to police.

Police records show that the man fled the home in an unknown location; police searched the area with the help of a K9 unit but did not locate him.
The woman was taken to Queen of the Valley Medical Center where she was treated and released.

The suspect is described as a white male in his mid 20s, 6-feet to 6-feet-2, 200 pounds, with longer brown hair, brown eyes and wearing a brown, hooded sweatshirt and possibly jeans.
Anyone with information about this crimes is asked to contact Napa Police Det. Don Winegar at 258-8779.

" How about a description of the man? I live in a nice neighborhood off solano and had a very strange man come to my door acting like he was trying to sell something....he had missing teeth and no product in his hand..nor clothing that looked like he was a salesman. "

" Police have not yet provided us with a description of the suspect. We will add that once the description is available, along with any other information they have for us at that time. "

" How terrible! Hopefully this can serve as a PSA to women(and even men!) home alone, day or night. Do not open the door for a stranger! I have had strange "salesman" knocking on my door during the day, and after dark and I either ignore them or tell them I'm not interested without opening the door. "

" Wasn't there a similar article very recently, of a man pushing his way into a home and sexually attacking a woman? Could these crimes be related? I believe that man's identity was known. "

" This is not about 'sex' but rather domination, theft, revenge and terrorism. It's the mark of a clinical psychopath also. I suspect there is DNA involved as he is also not very bright. He will be brought down now as someone knows him, so keep on the story as he may be very well hidden under some cloak of respectability and daily normality at the extreme. In he meantime go to your local hardware store and buy the *best* door chain that you can find and use the 'longer' screws ( about 2.5 inches ) that go very deep into the wood so it cannot be kicked open. If you are still uneasy, print up a small notice on your PC that says "Notice: For the Safety of Our Neighbors, Friends and Guests, The Premises are Being Monitored by Video Surveillance". I myself wish I had such a 'secure' door chain at my former apartment when the enraged downstairs dirtbag tried to push in my door in 2003 after I called the PD who fully bungled the call and incident. I landed up peppering him and fighting him off as a result. Took forever, so one secure door chain could have prevented this. "

" If it makes you feel better, by all means put the chain on the door, but the truth is, if someone wants to get in, that chain is not going to stop them. Buy a 38 cal S&W if you want security... "

" C'mon. Was it really necessary to mention that he pulled her pants down first??? This was unncecessarily descriptive and kind of sick. Is this the best writing this paper can come up with? "

" SO what kevin, she should have answered the door with a loaded handgun? "

" What an interesting head line for this article. It sounds like the perp escaped ? Isn't it more like he fled ? left ? scooted the heck outta there ? Escape makes me think that he was captured and then escaped his captor. With that being said, I hope he is caught and justice is served and the woman has a great support system . "
