Writer John Stephens wants everyone to take action on global warming ("From AmCan to Greenland, take action on warming," Oct. 24) because of a global warming book he found scary.

The deepening calamity now spreading from financial markets to the broader economy results from the failed fantasy that markets can regulate themselves.

Dear editor,The "candy for a buck" exchange at the Silverado Dental Care noted in a Nov. 7 Register article was most ingenious. I thought it was a very gifted idea and commend the people who partook in this wonderful idea. My hat goes off to Lee Ann Blazer (office manager), Marjorie Dixon (executive director for the Silverado-Napa County chapter of the American Red Cross) and Susan De Wet (of We Support our Troops) for giving kids a chance to donate their Halloween candy for money, with which to buy themselves a rewarding gift.
