Daily Briefs: Diplomas, dancing for vets
Veterans of World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War who left high school to serve in the Armed Forces can receive their high school diplomas today, 2-4 p.m., at the Veterans Home of California at Yountville in Grant Hall. The diplomas will be awarded by Dr. Barbara Nemko, Napa County Superintendent of Schools in conjunction with Veterans Service Officer Patrick Jolly.
The free, public celebration will continue with a Senior Prom tea dance, sponsored by the Volunteer Center of Napa Valley, in Grant Hall, 4-6 p.m.

Mini Regatta
The Sea Scout Ship Chaser hosts the Napa Mini Regatta at the Napa Sea Scout Base, 402 Riverside Drive, Napa, today and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. This event is attended by Sea Scouts from all over the San Francisco Bay Area and at least 10 units are expected to cruise their vessels up the Napa River. The Mini Regatta serves as a training session in several competitive events. Many vessels are open for tours. The Mini Regatta is followed by a formal awards ceremony beginning at 7 p.m. at the Native Son’s Hall, 937 Coombs St., Napa. On Sunday, the Sea Scout fleet cruises down the Napa River for their home ports or for additional drills and training. The Sea Scouts are a division of the Boy Scouts of America serving youths, 14 to 21, with an interest in boating and maritime training. Vintage band show
The Vintage Reserve Band Review and Field Show is today. The free parade competition starts at 9:30 a.m., featuring 25 bands competing on the street in front of Vintage High School at 1375 Trower Ave., Napa. The free concert percussion contest starts at 12:30 p.m., with 11 drum lines competing at the memorial stadium on Myrtle Ave., Napa. The street awards are at 2 p.m.
The field show competition starts at 4 p.m., featuring 18 bands competing on the field. Gates open at 3:30 p.m. in the memorial stadium. $20 for a family of four; $6 for adults; and $3 for seniors and students aged 7 to 17./Register
