Two Napa High School students, Stephen Oja and Nick Perkins put their school spirit into overdrive Friday morning.

Oja and Perkins painted an old BMW burgundy and gold with Vintage Crusher VC’s and parked the car in front parking lot at Napa High School.
To drive home their school spirit, the seniors drove over the car in their trucks, crushing it and leaving it for all to discover as students arrived at school on Big Game day.

Oja said the idea came from his auto shop teacher, his father Sven Oja. The younger Oja had been using the old BMW for spare parts and was ready to give it up to demonstrate his prediction for the outcome of the Big Game against the Indians’ crosstown rivals.
The Napa Indians seemed to approve. Many came on the sight as they came to school Friday and, Oja said, teachers took mini field trips with their classes out to see the spectacle.

A few Vintage students drove by without incident, Oja said. Time will tell if their revenge comes on the field.

" I don't see how this is a prank. If anything it's saying that the Crushers are so tough that they can't be crushed. Just like this car is not crushed at all. If I did that I would have smashed it up a lot more. What's the big deal about big game anyway? It's just a few volleyball matches? "

" The part that they left out was how many rubber-neckers almost ran up each others tail pipes trying to see what the big "wreck" was. The drive down Jefferson this morning was just a bit more radical than usual. Cute Idea? Not a great plan. I can't believe that the school let them do that. "

" Geez... have some town spirit people... this is a tradition going back for so long.. yes its a little hectic big game week, but its fun for the kids and adults too. PS... If people werent tailgating in the first place they wouldnt be "going up each others tailpipes". Chill out people, let the kids have some good clean fun.. GO NAPA! "

" This is totally unacceptable behavior. I can't believe that the school let this happen either. Somebody should be fined for disorderly conduct. This kind of thing should not happen in Napa. It could lead to violence. I think whoever drove that truck on top of that car should also be fined for wreckless driving. Somebody could have been seriously hurt or killed for this so called prank. "

" Folks, this is part of the spirit of Napa. The "Big Game" has been a tradition since Vintage High School was opened in the late 1970's. My guess is those of you who are taking such a hard line with this are not locals and more than likely have never set foot in Memorial Stadium. If you haven't gone to watch the "Big Game" before, I highly recommend you do. These kids play their heart's out for bragging rights and it is a great place to meet your neighbors, see some old friends, or possibly make some new ones. Hope to see you there. Go Crushers!!!!! "

" Yes today's traffic sucks, however you people are making way to much of a big deal of something trivial in the napa history of it all, 36 years we have been doing this, and when I was a Senior in HS we dropped plastic golf balls all over the Napa High campus, get a grip this is tradition, and obviously none of you have lived here long enough to know what this means to our TOWN, so get out... it's like Stanford playing Berkeley, get a grip and get over yourselves...drive...Napa traffic sucks no matter what the rubber neckers are doing! Please I hope someday you will have a child at Napa or Vintage and then you will understand the TRADITION at hand! "

" I graduated from Napa. My Husband from Vintage. Three of our sons graduated from Napa. Two from Vintage. One still at Vintage and on the football team. I felt it was in poor taste to stack cars on Jefferson. I still do. It is a little different than the golf balls. So some things just aren't as "obvious" as others. I don't call it "clean" fun at all. We have spent MANY cold nights at the stadium. Lots of boys...lots of football! Fun doesn't have to be destructive and a distraction to drivers. "

" Hey y'all- let the kids have some fun. This is school spirit and a week where kids want to be at school and enjoy the excitment. These kids are friends before the Big Game and they are still friends after the Big Game. This rivarly really is for this one week and one night only- It's a healthy rivarly and come Monday morning they all love each other again. "

" Thank GOD for good old-fashioned intelligent naughtiness, not inhibited by lawyers, nay-sayers, safety-at-all-costs fun-killers, etc. What a COOL prank! (Even though I didn't grow up here...I LOVE it!) There is hope for America yet! Go Indians! "
