If evacuated, what would you take with you?

Some San Diego area fire victims had 10 minutes or less to evacuate their homes. If you were directed to vacate your home in ten minutes, what would you take with you?

Would you just run for the door? Maybe grab some important papers? Your wedding album? The family pets?

" I was evacuated from a Soda Canyon fire in the early '90s. I was ordered to leave by the CDF. I took my dog; a box of keepsakes; a stuffed doll I've had since I was 4; various important papers; and my make-up (hey, I'm a girl...what can I say). "

" I'd take my laptop, journal, purse (with my checkbook, credit card, etc.), my cats, make-up (no girl can live without it), and a few books that I greatly value. Oh, and the photo albums & other necessary papers (like my birth certificate). "

" I would take my 4 kids, 3 cats, 1 dog and if I wasn't mad at my husband that day, maybe him. "

" I would not take make-up, cuz while I might be a girl, its not a requirement for me. I would grab some clothes, my cat, my backup hard drive, the lap top and my lock box that has important documents in it. Everything else can be left behind. "

" When they tell me to get out during a wild fire all I'm taking is a few keepsakes that I can hold in my left arm and leave in a dead run. I'm not going to dally. "

" It's all in carry out box near the door. We learned from the fire we suffered at Berryessa. "

" I am an ex Napa resident who was evacuated out of the Westwood area of Rancho Bernardo (San Diego). The police came through on PAs at 5:15 AM. We woke up the kids, packed about 3 days worth of clothes, a box of important papers (mortgage, insurance, passports, marriage license), blankets, pillows, dog food, and the dog. It was surreal leaving my Honda in the garage as we drove off in our minivan. We had no idea if we were leaving as a precaution or if the flames were right down the block. Fortunately, we returned on Friday and we were lucky by about 200 yards. "
