Free sandbags
The city of Napa will distribute sandbags on Saturday as part of annual winter flood preparedness.
Residents can get free sandbags at the city's Corporation Yard, 770 Jackson St., 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
This is a self-service program. Residents should bring shovels and gloves and be prepared to fill their own sandbags.
Additional sandbag days are scheduled for the first Saturday of each month through March: Dec. 1, Jan. 5, Feb. 2 and March 1.
There will be special sandbag distributions when a Flood Watch or a Flash Flood Watch is posted by the National Weather Service for the Napa River or its tributaries. These emergency distributions will occur at Memorial Stadium on Menlo Avenue.
For information on how to use sandbags effectively, go to www.cityofnapa.org, where "emergency information" is available on the "For Residents" home page.
For further information about Saturday's distribution, call the Public Works Department at 257-9520./Register
