Napa Red Cross helps fire victims
The Napa chapter of the American Red Cross has sent 10 local volunteers to San Diego County to assist in helping the more than 500,000 victims who have been evacuated because of the multiple wildfires burning in the southern part of the state.
While in Southern California, their duties will be to provide shelter, food and emotional support for those who have been displaced from their homes because of the fires. The volunteers have been specially trained in responding to all types of disasters. To volunteer to help in a disaster, contact the Red Cross about training opportunities.
The Red Cross has opened at least 20 shelters in the fire-ravaged area, providing counseling, food, shelter and some medications for those who have had to evacuate.
Though Napans are far from the fire, earthquakes and floods happen here, said Marj Dixon, executive director of the Napa Red Cross. They should “be prepared with an emergency kit.” The Red Cross can help to get such a kit together, Dixon said.
